I call myself an artist for what its worth...Zero...The National Gallery of Canada paid 1.8 mill for 3 stripes down a canvas so I guess I plain don't get or understand or appreciate art sometimes. My apologies to Stohead and you. I have removed my post in respect to you both. I will keep my opinions of art to myself as I usually do...Glad you like it Choptop.

  15. While hiking Clear Creek canyon today, my wife found this hulk in the creek. Looks to be what's left of a 41-48 Ford Tudor. I know it's a crappy picture but it looks saveable to me, whatcha think? Mitch. 20180118_122006.jpg

From a previous post on spotlights:

    Hello,

In our neighborhood of Long Beach, real Appletons had to be installed because there were no fake ones at the time. The custom cars in the neighborhood had them and it was very cool looking. My favorite 56 Ford F100 truck had a pair installed and it just topped off the total custom look. The spotlight use came from those old CHP TV shows. They used the spotlights to light up houses and addresses when on a police search. Also, they lit up stopped cars to wake them up or have them move along if parked in dark place.

My dad had a couple installed on his stock 53 Buick 4 door sedan. Why? He used to go fishing early in the morning. He wanted to showcase the rock jetties and beach areas while getting prepared with his gear. Also, on his three forays into deep Baja, Mexico (100 miles south of the border), the spotlights were a necessity to light up those super dark, winding, dirt roads that led away from the main highway for a mile or two down to the secluded beach.

Today, new ones seem to be available and there are plenty of used ones on Ebay. The only problem is finding a matching set. If a person had electrical knowledge, they could be salvaged. The mechanism that turns the spotlight needs to be refurbished if it moves too loosely.

But, for us, it was playtime at the drive-in movies at the half-time intermission. Since we had two, the two brothers always ruled the big screen. Yes, we even tried to blind each other, but got in trouble with people walking around or in cars.

    Hello,

Last week, we had to go up to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office in Santa Ana for some business. While waiting at the coded door to open, there was a new Police Interceptor SUV Ford Explorer just sitting for inquiring minds to go over and see what is what. Of course, I got the warning to quit messing around over there, by you know who…!

The first thing my wife noticed were the black rims and tires. She wanted to know if they were bulletproof. Well, no…they puncture just like our own tires. But, they looked like reversed Halibrand Mags with a floating center hub, and were made of steel.

What I noticed were these new shiny black spotlights on the windshield posts. They were sleek, about the same size as regular Appletons and the functionality was the same…light up the road ahead, a darkened alley, or an old drive-in screen. But, this time, whoever used these lights would win as they were LED Halogen bulb powered units. I was told later that they are 7.8 amp bulbs.

    For sale from various stores.

Immediately, I thought that someone using Appletons on their hot rods or trucks, could interchange the big bulbs and wiring to make a custom super, high beam spotlights with the original, Appleton outside housing.

As all lighting is under the DMV laws, these would fall under accessory lighting. They would not be subject to a ticket, as they have their own switches not connected to the main headlight switch. (even with those powerful Halogen bulbs.)

Back in 1966, When I interchanged my dual headlight, high beam bulbs with super clear, high beam bulbs for desert driving, it made those very dark, desert roads light up like daytime. But, I got a ticket at one of those CHP checkpoints during the day. My red, 65 El Camino was stock looking and the inspector went over the whole car, then he spotted the clear bulbs in the high beam area in front.

    Notice any differences?

The ticket was for being connected to the main headlight switch. (that was the reason for using these, only on those “no light” desert roads… instant on/off with a foot switch…But that is against the law.) I was told to make another mount and make the super high beam lights on their own circuit/switch. Also, to replace the original factory high beam light in its original spot.
