Happy New Year HOT RODDERS all over The Ball.

I was 2days out of homeoffice and same time picked up new Project.
Project arrived from Houston Texas (Originally from Iowa) few days ago. Now familymember is safely in own garage.

I built this car ready during this winter. Some body changes, change engine and tranny, drop down rear end of body and maybe little front too,......

    Thank You Sirs.
You are correct about those military seats. Made By Friz Zieparth Co. Rialto CA.

I bought those from Reno-NV. Older Gentleman, Hot Rod builder who has many times interesting stuff for sale.

Never knows,.... but I try my best.
Still try to remember few phrase:

-Hot Rods are made for driving, not for trailer queens
-Dare to be different, but keep it simple.

I have been lazy,... but today worked hours with roadster.
Need to make holes to that panel and tigweld those new sheetmetal pieces there.
    Taillights are 40´s K-D 540.

Dash is next after this. Need to shape it to fit auburn style alum. dash panel.

Here today result. Continue Friday Morning.
I like more original style body, when Wood tack rail set is "dropped", so... I cut and weld.

Total drop is 1/2" . Cut upper side of tape.

    Questions:

    1) what is difference between 1939 Double Detent tranny gears and Lincoln Zephyr gears? Earlier I have had only DD trannys and this one with LZ gears I have keep stored for good Project.

    2) Gemmer steering box. Looks like 1932 Ford original box, but this one has very long columnshaft and -tube.
Steering wheel is higher and upper. Maybe I need to cut column .... Now looks like strange.... What is this steering box? Is there many different lenght steering column/column shaft in year 1932?

I do not know. I have never had any model A box. I do not belive, because A-ford box is 4" longer than B ford box.
    Not that way, not possible.

I slide out column tube and one thing is sure, nobody weld this column axle longer. Looks like very good condition and original lenght.

All dimensions, size,...is same than original 1932 ford - 1934 Ford.

Only that mounting adapter is not same those 33 and 34 yearmodels, if we compare those for 1932 box..
I was google and try to find info Sunday evening and Im rather sure that its BB box.

I open box when I take body off and work with frame.

  28. On the transmission with LZ gears, you should be able to just use a stock 39 top - there is nothing special to do for the LZ gears. You'll be using the same synchros, slider, main/tail shaft, first gear slider, reverse gear and small parts kit. If you're building the trans, make sure you have the correct clearances and fitment on everything - especially the main shaft front, associated bearings, 2nd to main fitment, etc.

The issue that I hate the most (with any 39 box) is the tendency to pop-out of second gear when you slow down (especially at higher RPMs). On the 39 LZ box I build for my 32 cabriolet, I had Charlie NY rebush the second gear for a tight fitment to my specific main shaft (he is the only guy I know that does this). I made new shafts for the cluster and reverse (as I could not find NOS ones and the repops are incorrectly sizes). Make sure you have good quality parts and not some of the repop junk - talk to VanPelt if you need things. Anyway, when it was all done, it stays in second as it should - that makes me very happy.

Note: If you want a little 'rebuild book' that I put together - along with Dennis Lacy (he let me modify his original text), then drop me a PM. It shows the special modifications that I do on top of a 'regular' 39 trans.

    Take care!
    B&S

PS: Might be coming over to Finland with some of my family this next summer. Mom has never been (she's 85) and is 100% Finn!

    Hello,
THank You for Your advice. I need to read it twice more (not so good english).....

I have bought this LZ gear tranny ready rebuilt from older man (california). He has rebuilt 3 speed ford trannys over 60years. I have rebuilt some normal 1935-38 trannys and two full syncro 1939 DD tranny too. No problem, easier than Muncie 21 and 22 trannys and bearings are free for me (I sell bearings my dayjob). Old US made trannys and superchargers have metric bearings, very low price here and our Company has over 6milj.Usd value stock,...so "I can take some bearinngs for test use".

I was just interested in to know what are main differences between LZ gear tranny and 1939 DD tranny.
Is 3rd gear same ratio ? I think, that maybe LZ tranny helps me, if there is 3.78:1 ring and pinion in my roadster rear end....

Please, let me know if You come to Finland next summer. Do not rent car. Just drive fast train from Helsinki Airport to Seinajoki (350km, 2hours) and take my Mercedes. It´s only C-model turbo diesel, but its STW, so easy to take bags, luggages. Free car for You (one week, two week.....as long as You need it). I drive summer season hot rods, so not need car. You need only to buy diesel (approx. 1,6usd litre), but this 6y old turbodiesel takes 5-5.5litre 100km (8-9litre 100miles 8-9litre= little over 2gal/100miles). I drove 3years 2005 Ford Mustang, but sold it last March and buy again diesel Mercedes dailycar. Mustang was little too expensive to use all winter. Expensive kilometers, winter tires, not so good heater,.... but it was so cheap car (10/2013 I bought it from LA area 6000usd and exchange rate was very good for me), so I still get 5000euro profit when sold it last year,.... Normally You never get profit with dailycars.
