With all the pictures from the website you could build one your self for a lot less. And i'd get rid of those cheesey SBC headers and air scoop.

  7. I remember seeing it for sale in the car corral at Carlisle years ago. It had the fake headers on it then. Still kinda cool

At least the gay headers were only bolted on.
$175k would be like winning the lottery.

Way way to much money for something that only has value as a TV car. Its not even something I'd want at any price.

I used to use that saying of "fool and his money is soon parted" and one day a wise old man said to me "how in the hell did the fool get the money in the first place if he is a fool"???

You guys are right it is a well worn car that is just not worth that kind of money and one day somebody will get stuck with it when the music stops...

  11. Take those shit headers off and look deeper that is a cool old original hot rod, looks like it would have been built in the early 50s. Under the flaking paint there looks to be black lacquer paint job. Add the fact it was used in an iconic sitcom it could sell for a big chunk of change.

It is what it is, and I hope the seller does well, nobody seams to complain when sports memorabilia sells for obscene stupid money. Bob

I understand they added the headers and scoop for a TV 'look' for a visual as the flathead is buried in the frame.
Also though the clip was used in the intro, I think it was only in one episode.

'29 roadster pickup on a '32 frame with a flathead, '32 grille, is that a Stewart Warner dash cluster? Also looks like chrome suspension with a banjo rear in it, old pleated vinyl interior, ect. What's not to love here?

Plus it was a TV star. Sure the TV thing is what's jacking the price up so high but I would dig this truck even if it wasn't famous. I'd have to ditch the headers and scoop and run it like it looks in that early picture posted above, probably the cycle fenders too (hang them on the garage wall) but it's a neat little rod in it's own right.

Overall it's a cool car, and I get the TV thing and even the Barris autograph, but...... For a fraction of the expected price, I could build my own any way I wanted it to be, and be completely happy with it. Hell, I could build an exact replica (minus the headers and air scoop of course) for a fraction of that and could fool 90% of the people that saw it.
In my opinion, cars like that at those prices are for guys to park in their showroom (garage) and brag about how much they paid for it.

Minus the headers and scoop, that is actually a pretty neat little car.

  23. How does someone come up with that estimate? You pay 130 to 150k more than its worth because it was on TV and has a few autographs? Sorry, I don't get it.......

when you look at the close up photos that IS a cool old Hot Rod. with the unusual frame I am surprised no one has a picture of it when it was built. the only thing hokey is the headers and the dumb ass scoop. proper wheels and tires, get rid of the dumb stuff and paint it your favorite old time color and the chicks will be digging you..

Overall it is a cool old hot rod...chromed out running gear, Auburn dash and insert, 32 frame, flathead....it doesnt get much better.
Ya gotta remember, that high price is just an estimate ment to create a buzz and excitement....which it obviously has. A good auction company is all about marketing.

Ya, who would build an ugly Hot Rod like that. I would buy that if I had the money. I always like it. Who would buy the batmobile, just some nut for Millions of dollars. And why, because he has everything else he always wanted too. When growing up as a kid, I watched the show just to see the pick up(Happy Days). I thought the show was corny. But you never knew what might be in Fonzy`s shop or at Arnolds Drive Inn. I remember reading the article about the guy buying it in the 70`s. A good article from the 80`s or 90`s when they featured it in a magazine. I wanted it back then too.

In the pictures sometimes the hubcaps are on the front and sometimes they're on the back. Weird.

I was at a private auction years ago in New Hampshire and the car was part of the collection and I believe it was sold for around 15k a lot of the facts have long been forgotten but def remember think how cool it was to see it. Also remember thinking wow those headers are cheesy. A lot of rust issues in the lower corners of the body ect. Still cool.
