I did a search and couldn’t really find what I was looking for. I’m looking for pics and a list of parts needed to mate a T5 to a hogshead. I know folks are doing it but getting a straight answer seems to be difficult. Pics??
Dwight Bond in Gibbon Nebraska makes & sells the adapter you need. Probably a hundred posts on this set-up a few years ago. This is my version of his adapter, only with a Saginaw 3 speed.
If you have an S-10 T 5 I'd suggest getting the adapter and attending pieces from Dwight Bond. You have to send him a postal money order but he fires the parts back at the same time he cashes the money order.
LOL, You have lead a very sheltered life. I have a hogshead on the shelf in the basement with throw out fork. I am not sure I would be willing to box it up but would sell it if someone in the area needed it. John
Yup, you need the hogshead and the Bond adapter plate(for a S10 trans). Works great, I have about 25k miles on this setup in my F-1...
They are that, I lucked out and my flathead came with one and then the granny four speed that am putting behind the Ford Flathead six in my vintage race car style roadster came with one.
Your never too old to learn something new on the HAMB. Tonight I learned what a Scroadster and a Hogshead were.
Very interesting. I have had this hogshead for years but had never seen the actual technical instructions. Thanks for posting.
Rich B, do you need to use the 4-speed front retainer as shown in your PDF? I have a couple hogsheads, but neither came with the 4-speed's retainer. Will a regular old 3-speed retainer fit, or are more mods needed to the adapter then?
If you use the Dwight Bond adapter a 3 speed bearing retainer will work. This part accepts the '32-'48 throw-out bearing & return spring. It bolts to the engine side of the adapter & slips over the T5 retainer.
I have not done this; just had the info saved for future use. I would think there would be a way to make a 3 speed retainer work; just compare it to the hole in the hogshead and see if either a centering ring or a reduction in diameter was needed and then see how it got along with the rest of the stuff. Modern Driveline has a similar adapter (MD-401-2114) don't see what they use for a front retainer tho.
You can take the boy away from the hogshead...but you can't take the hogshead away from the boy. Wild horses couldn't pry my hogshead from my old wrinkled hands... er, wait. That'd be my 'hogs-leg'. Things get mixed up like this. Like the pigtail I got for the Mustang...
This is the Model A / B T-5 adaptor I got from Dwight Bond several years ago...with the peddle shaft & bearings. I had to come up with the rest of the parts...truck hogshead, peddles, bushings, etc.
