Stay tuned, I have decided this car is going up for sale. It deserves to see the road and its not gonna happen by me anytime soon.

As you may be aware, the 392 Hemi and Hydramatic transmission was said the be the heaviest engine/trans combo of the 1950s - 1960s era. In an early 30s frame the weight was too much for the stock spring so rodders added extra leafs, sometimes a whole mess of them. This took care of the spring bottoming out, but left you with a pretty stiff, buckboard like ride. But in that era it was tolerable, as these cars were not usually driven long distances.
Also, if using an early 30s Ford steering box, low speed steering required a lot of muscle effort to get the wheels turning.
Not really a problem as these were built as Hot Rods.

Me being Connecticut, I KNEW you were a Rhode Island guy as soon as I saw the 401 prefix!! in your screen name

Hey, back in 1971, I'm rolling through Chepachet, RI, on my way to the Epic now-gone Bills vintage-(only prewars!) Junkyard in Cumberland RI... I spot a 32 5 window fenderless sitting sideview in a big side yard field... I stop, it has a 409 six twos! ... I was a shy kid then, I did later that year somehow talked to his wife, she said it was "an old Ford" and said it was for sale kinda, but he "had to get $400 for it"! That WAS a bit of change back then for a non running (unfinished or stalled project like yours!)but an old build!!

Hey Adam, this car was so close and it may have opened the door to several others tucked away locally.

It's funny how so much is still hidden out there.

back 20 years ago or less, old timers never would ever sell off a car they saved forever, but just the last 5?+ or so years, so many owners are now my age and much older, seeing that other friends are selling off!!, for either money they need to stay solvent, or they don't want the family to deal with selling non- runners after they pass away.. Lots more cars will be coming out, I am sure, and you are sort of saying it too!

  18. I remember when the 32 3 window in pic belonged to Bruce West from Bechtelsville , Pa. I think it came from California.

I always say that new ones go into the barn every day, there's always stuff to find if you're out there looking and patient.

I'm glad Eli got the car, he'll do right by it for sure. I happen to know that quite a few people looked at this car and passed on it for a VERY reasonable price. Eli stepped up so Eli gets the car. Done deal. Also anyone that wants to see it in person can go to the open house up at his place January 27. He'll post updates on IG but he's pretty scarce around here.

I hope he leaves the Hemi / hydro set up in; I see he's thinking flathead because that's what was originally in it before it went "full race". Whatever happens, it's an over the top East Coast treasure.

perfect thinking there, Mike... the car is STILL the same car,, no matter the early motor it had, or the hemi....or even...?? The car is the Star, not the details...unless the whole thing gets reborn as a new build...which we know from the above post by Gonzo, stating it won't!! Rock It!.... Hard!!

Aweee dude, you should have left the dry rotted sears Allstate snow tires on it, I bet they’d be good on the highway.

Removed the Olds rear, which was half ass installed, to put a '46 banjo back in, the tank is notched for a banjo and the rear spring is a '46, so that is what went back in 20180120_122937.jpg
