I’m a 15 year old kid from Illinois building a Ranchero to run with the Southeast Gasser association. I’m building this car on a low budget with the help from my dad. I plan on getting it done by the Fallout drags this year either in paint or primer. I plan on racing it as well as driving it to school occasionally on nice days. I bought this car off a fellow hamber about a year ago who has since became a good friend to me and helped me find parts. Building it with a small block ford with a top loader 4 speed, tube frame made with 2x3 1/8 inch mild steel and a ford 9 inch rear end. I appreciate all the help the members on the H.A.M.B. have given me. I am sure I will need a lot more.

Welcome to the HAMB. You have a serious shop at your disposal and a great project. Looks great so far. Will be keeping an eye on this one. Where in Illinois are you. I am up near Chicago.

If you have't already, you need to check out the AWB 64/65 Ranchero that was posted recently. It's pretty cool, but I can't remember the thread at the moment. There's also few other Ranchero builds going on.
    I am Butch/56sedandelivery.

That thread was titled: ANYONE HAVE ANY INFO ON THIS OLD AFX FALCON RANCHERO? FROM IOWA.

We have already been bothering both of them. Very helpful indeed. It won't be long and we will be asking you a bunch of questions also Scott. He wants to build a ford engine and I know nothing about them. He has a 302 block, but we aren't set on it yet

I would be happy to help you guys out with any info or advice I have to offer.
Ric P was like a big brother guiding me through my engine build to find great deals on low cost/high hp parts, and set me onto some real hot ticket combos for making power.
I have an engine combo that you guys are going to want to hear about. Its probably worth 100hp over what I'm making, with very few changes.
That Ranchero should really haul the mail, even with the most basic/affordable engine combo.:)

Feel free to pm me or call me anytime.
I'm gonna pm you my cell number right now.

    Scott

I will make you a smoking deal on a fresh 5.0 short block. .040 over with Mahle pistons and Scat rods.
Decided to go lighter so I am building a 289 so the car can weigh less. I also have Gabe's old heads off his 351 that are ready to go. PM me and we can talk price if interested.

Those heads are almost exactly what I'm running, too.
They should work pretty good, and allow you to spend cash elsewhere on the car that you saved over a set of cnc ported heads.
They'd make for one badass first motor for the race car!:)

Here's a picture for some ideas on your Falcon. I know the front wheels are not legal, but otherwise it was pretty much SEGA legal. 2013-10-10 11.55.36 (1).jpg 2013-10-10 12.33.01.jpg

Have you guys been on the Crites Restorations website yet?
They make fg fenders/hood/bumpers for that car,and a bunch of other slick parts you might be interested in.
I would say build it as absolutely featherweight as possible, then add ballast out back to bring it up to weight if you have to.
Not sure which class you guys are building for,but that car feels like a natural killer for C,in my mind...:)

My dad started drawing on my frame, we’re going to remove the crossmember in the middle and replace it with a crossmember for the ladder bars .

  25. For C/Gas, If you can get it to 2400 lbs with you in the seat, a 306-310"er will make 515-535 HP, if the heads are decent. That's put you in the 6.30's with a 3% loss car, or 6.20's with a 2% loss car, or 6 teens with a really good working 1% loss car. At 2600 lbs. a 331"er (3.250 stroke), should make 550-560 HP, and run the same ET's.

I have no idea. We have not had it on the scale. We have made a few educated guesses but don’t have any data to support it! HA.
Once the weather brakes this spring I’ll runnher down to the local COOP and scale it. We have one real close to home.

  29. According to Wikipedia, curb weight was 2475 lbs. but they do not say with which engine trans combo. With a V8, cast iron trans, and every option, I wouldn't think much over 2600.
