Hot Rods Crites aftermarket body pAnels... any thought?

Currently ordered 65 comet ram air hood wondered if anyone else has dealt
With Crites before, seems when I ordered they said 4-6 weeks, but that was 4 to 6 weeks before they have told me this again, also it seems the only
Person that knows anything is a lady named vickey who must only work from
8-8:30 am just curious if I’m the only one who has had this issue

Their web site says up to 12 weeks. I have never dealt with them.

 

I just really hope the product is worth the wait

They have been in business for quite a while. I have not dealt with them but from what I have heard everyone has the same issue that you are experiencing. The quality of their fiberglass is good from what I have seen although they make their hoods with a very smooth and finished underside where the original factory race hoods were built with the air box as a separate part that was bonded to the bottom side of the hood. I am fortunate to have an exact copy of an A/FX hood that was made using a original hood as a plug for the mold. Plaza Glas in Canada made the original hoods for the 21 A/FX cars in 1964 they were sent to the car owners by FoMoCo to replace the tear drop hoods the cars came with. In 1965 all the A/FX cars had them.

 

Well if I can get ahold of Vickie tomorrow at Crites I’m sure I won’t get and answer but I would assume the thing would be damn close to done

It takes them a while, they're a mom and pop shop. Mrs. Crites answers the phone and Mr. Crites builds the stuff. They're great people. My son bought a front clip for his 63.5 Galaxie from them. It's really nice stuff, in my opinion, but I hope you're not expecting concours restoration parts. There was a reason Ford put the disclaimer tags on the lightweight cars regarding fit and finish. I have dealt with Crites a couple of times for my o/t.
I thought the time frame from order to door was really good considering I'm in Canada.
My parts were pretty small compared to a hood & were in stock.
Quality of parts was also exceptional.

 

Good luck, but isn't this a post you make BEFORE you place an order?

 

I've dealt with them a few times, Mom & Pop shop, most things are built to order, never was disappointed with there products.

 

The folks at Crites are about the nicest people you will ever find to deal with.
My hood and front bumper came from them,and the quality is absolutely outstanding.Also got my subframe connectors and leaf spring relocation kit from them.Both are well designed and built,and fit and function are great.

I will use their parts on my A/FX project that's coming up,without a doubt.
Quality parts,built by the same folks that answer the phone.Thats about the best you could ask for,in my book.

Why the big rush?Look out the window right now.....You're not gonna be driving the car for another 4 months anyway.

Also,they make an incredible amount of parts for that Comet that you're not going to find anyplace else:
-dash/radio delete stuff
-interior parts
-fenders
-doors(?)
-thunderbolt style traction bars
-subframe connectors
-headers (289/302/390/427/428/429/460)
-radiators/mounts/shrouds
-engine swap kits
-shock tower trimming kits and templates

They're a goldmine,Man....Waiting a few extra weeks is worth it for really decent quality parts that fit.

Very cool Comet...

 

The car's looking good.Don't sweat the hood.It'll get to you.
Mine just needed a little scuff and paint,and drilling for the pins,but yours could be a little more involved,who knows?They all come out of the mold a wee bit thicker/thinner etc.

You've got a shit ton of stuff to do before you need to worry about dropping the hood onto it.

Wiring,fuel system,brakes,glass,interior,cooling system,trans,shifter linkage,clutch linkage....Save the hood for near the end of that list,and it'll be like you saved the easy shit for last.

What did you guys settle on for a rear gear in the car?

Everything is ready on the table to be put in we have to paint decklid too just kinda wanting to mix one batch for hood and deck lid then be done side glass is all that is left and it will be fixed up no open option lol eiser that way torque converter ordered so we can get the whitey righty in it

One thing I just noticed,though:
If that's a factory damper on that Windsor,I'd pull it off and chuck it in the dumpster.Ford Racing offers an affordable steel one that will last forever,that has interchangable weights for different balances,or they all remove for neutral balance.

With a 4.30 and 28" tire that thing should be rolling around 125mph at 6500rpm.
That'll keep your motor pulling nicely in the lights,and not revving its guts out by half track.
