Me and my son working on my Dad's 1939 Ford Coupe. Been at for about 3/4 of a year to date. It sat for 15 years and was not ran. First job was to rebuild the old Rochester 4V carb on the 327 and get it running. This car was bought in the late 1950's - started restoration in about 1970 with 1968 Cad. Fireburst gold lacquer and lead bodywork. Then it was out on the back burner and stored but no real work - except about 18 years ago - the stock braked were dried up - I installed F-150 front disk brakes to the original axel - all new lines and Mustang split system master cly - and rebuilt the original drums on the Columbia 2 speed rear end. We remounted the 327 about 1 inch lower with side mounts vs old honest Charlie front mount that originally supported a Olds J-2 371 with stock 3 speed trans. The 327 Chevy has a Muncie 4 speed and the tail shaft moved to the right about 3/8 inch when the clutch was pressed. Not now with new side mounted engine. Added the old 2.5 Vette rams horns and Vega steeting box. Original was really wore out, by we are keeping the 1939 steering. More work to follow as time allows. 39 new clutch.jpg 39 new clutch.jpg rob 39 hood.jpg

This is not the best side view - but here it is. Will post a better one later. We installed the trim this week. Current wheels are 1974 Ford Bronco 15x6 with 5 on 5.5 circle - I have put some baby moon caps on since this pic. 39 SIDE VIEW.jpg

Well, it sounded easy enough back in Feb! Lets see what reality has done.
The excuses: My son has a 57 Dodge wagon, over the winter he pulled the drive train so the wagon could get painted, which didn't get done. Instead of reinstalling the drive train that came out, he wanted to upgrade. The upgrade grew complex because we had to fabricate new motor & trans mounts, redo all the wiring, modify the power steering pump and a bunch of other stuff. All told, the upgrade stretched out to nearly 3 months, but we got the car road worthy. Of course, my project got to sit until the wagon was running.

I was able to get the off topic frame ready for my truck, and managed to get the cab set into position and temporarily mounted.

About a month after we got the wagon running, it was at the exhaust shop so they could attend to an exhaust issue they created. While it was at the exhaust shop, the car got caught in a flash flood and went under water to the top of the roof. The wagon was insured, so as soon as we could get it out of the water, we began the process of cleanup. A month after we started the clean up process we ran into a problem with my son's insurance. American Family Classic insurance began to throw up all kinds of issues, so everything stopped on the wagon while we fought with the insurance company to get what my son was paying for. Two calls to the IL Insurance Commissioner over a 2 month time finally got the insurance company to move (we won, for whatever that is worth).

While we were dealing with the insurance company, I was able to replace the floors and cab mounts on my truck. After we finished leaning up the wagon, I was able to mount the late model motor & trans in the truck, and have most of the connections complete. I work out of my garage, so the truck has to sit outside until I have a day or so to work on it. It does not yet move under its own power, so I have to push it in and back out of the garage. I had hopes of getting it running so I could drive it in and out, but I didn't get it done.
When we got our first snow fall, the truck had to get pushed off the driveway, and I can no longer push it into the garage by hand. I can't jack the truck up where it now sits, so I'm pretty much screwed until spring: Gene

Bought the cowl steering set-up from Mike's speed shop. Nice piece and top quality ! Next will be a 324 olds engine.

  23. I posted a photo of my old 1965 Ford pickup back in September and said after many false starts I was finally going to get started on it and true to form I traded my 4 door deuce sedan for a 5 window and the truck build went right out the window.

So my current project is a Deuce 5 window coupe. HRP

Sorry. I hate spell correct. I went too far when I cut out my heads to get the valves to clear them. I put in an isky 400jr cam in the motor and stock heads don't fit that much lift . Runs great though. Lots of fun. It's a 59a flatty motor

    Nice!
Project? That looks like it's ready for a lot of fun miles. (not knowing the condition of the drivetrain)
Maybe de-red the interior a bit?
That's really close to the wheel and tire combo, I'm planning to run on my A coupe.
    Deuce wires, 5.50 Excelsior's, and 6.50 Firestones.
    Keeping them?
