It's looking good and I'm really enjoying watching the improvements! I had full faith it'd come together after watching the other work you'd done! Keep it up...

  2. a buddy of mine and I were doing my roof with the shrinking disc, hammer dolly, special made dollies and spoons, torches and heavy bumping, metal files. There was 2 guys, 4 hands on it for 3 nights for a total of 30 hrs to get it within mud range. In acts of desperation, There were a few spots that wouldn't cooperate and needed to come up and they just wouldn't. I said lets see here? The shrinking disk makes the metal go down (away from the disk) so what happens if we run it upside down on the roof skin??? Down (away from the disc) would be up, right? It wasn't easydoing that and positioning yourself safely took some doing but it worked and really improved the progress the last 5 hrs. Keep that in mind if you need it.

    Thanks Brady and Alfin32.

Only amazing part is that my wife lets me spent countless hours in the garage making this mess, and all the noise and smells....

Hope everyone has a Happy Thanksgiving with their families

Also made a sliver, and welded up the gaps in sub structure on passenger side. Started slicing and trimming the lower pass side post corner, and came to realize this is the most difficult area on the whole damn roof...!!!!

Made some filler strips, and have been fighting the two surfaces coming together all afternoon... will give it a little more time, and tack up what I’ve got, and if it looks like crap, cut it out and make two new pieces for all of it

  16. Looking good,
lots of little pieces and even more welding and the Grinding and then trying to flatten out ;)

I never have any luck with that :eek:.
By the end of it I'm burnt up, can't hear sore hands and all I have to show for it is a big pile of dust and lumpy panel.

    V4F,

It is structural somewhat, but mostly was done for looks... I wanted to do a project with Dad, and he likes forming stuff, so we built the die, made the cups, and I welded them in

Wow.This one is really going to be something when it's done.
You're hitting it out of the park by picking that old Cad for motivation. Its just perfect.
The treatment to the frame is very cool and unique, and regarding that chop:
I can't agree more...A little adjustment will change the whole personality of the car,and make it look mean as a rattlesnake.
Great work, and you must be a pretty stand-up dude if including Family in the process is so important to you, instead of "escaping" to the garage, like many guys.
    Nice job,Brother.Keep the hits coming!

    Scott

    Scott,
Thanks for the good words... yes, family is most important to me, and getting input and feedback from my wife and daughter is key to them feeling included (except daughter wants it pink...that ain’t happening...!)
I also try to get my dad involved, as he’s been rodding for 60 years, and has a good eye for details

Welded and ground on driver’s side cowl, and dragged the grill out for a Sunday mock-up shot:

  29. Sinister! I’m impressed with the way you stay after it, not letting it beat you. It is paying off, the passenger side cowl looks great!

Thanks BrEad... I had a little setback recently, with my sidekick shop dog Charlie passing unexpectedly... I’m trying to force myself to get in garage today, and try to move forward some...
