Mikey check the vette hot rods thread. As always one member knew who owns it and did the restoration.

don't know where the rest of the caption disappeared to while posting but that intake and carb are special too. I THINK it said the aluminum intake for the L-88

1960 Lions pits getting prepped for the elimination races
    Hello MM,

Thanks for allowing the posts of the 671 SBC with 6 Strombergs on this thread. At the time, it was a great set up for us teenagers and first time hot rod builders. We lost our photos and movies of our 671 SBC motor with 6 Strombergs for our 40 Willys coupe from May/June 1960. The only one I was given was the one I have been posting as a similar motor to our 671 SBC/Strombergs. It is a photo of the motor that went into Bones Balogh’s Chevy sedan for the Gas Coupe and Sedan Class.

I assumed that because it was dated Oct. 1960, that it was the only one around. Then recently reading Junior Thompson’s Tribute Page and other additions to his great webpage, I came across this section titled Bones Balogh. The photos show that the 671 SBC motor with Strombergs was put together in April, 1960. Our 671 SBC set up came within the next several months. We were still running the Strombergs by themselves on our 283 motor in the 40 Willys for B/Gas.

I did not want readers to think my brother and I copied anyone’s idea of a 671 SBC with Strombergs or was our set up “first” in a long line of similar 671 SBC motors. We just happened to receive an Isky Gilmer Belt Drive Kit and blower manifolds at that time. We ran the SBC with 6 Strombergs by itself in B/Gas from March to May and then set up our 671 and larger 292 SBC with Strombergs then.

With added weight, we were able to drop into the C/Gas class, where we were close to the national record in 3 months of racing. We ran that set up until August 13, 1960, when it all came crashing down. Sorry for the confusion to some readers of the HAMB.

Accuracy in reporting the true facts is very important to keep the history going for later generations. "What did you do back in those early days of drag racing?"
