What's the coolest thing you found in an old car?

Being in the car business for many years I used to buy cars from the insurance salvage pools. We found lots of interesting things, a Sig Saur 9mm with extra clips, cell phones and chargers, lots of tools good and bad. One Toyota Celica Supra was owned by a military member and the glove box and consul was stuffed with rolls of military issue condoms. The most valuable goodies was a zip lock bag of gold jewelry, rings, ear rings necklace's. I had it all appraised and in total just under 2 grand.

When I was young I bought a 1957 Chrysler 300 . It was wrecked and I needed to replace rear 1/4. I had to take the rear seat out and stuffed between the seat cushion and the back rest, was a Playtex panty girdle with garters and nylon stockings still attached. Guess someone had an enjoyable evening, before those damn pantyhose were invented.

These days one has to be very careful poking around due to drugs and needles.

All Things I have found in my current project. I am more than certain that there will be some more surprises as I go along. My car has always been a Southern California car and was purchased out of Pomona, so its sort of neat finding little bits and pieces of its history stuffed in corners.

 

Came out of the gap between the quarter panel and trunk floor in my 58 Vette.
Looks like 1980's to me. Now using it since it belonged with the car.

 

While cleaning out a 1950 Ford I bought I found a lapel button that was about three inches in diameter, lime green with blue script. The caption read" Mobilization to End the War Now" with the date under it being April 15, 1967. I thought it was a neat glimpse into another time in our nation's history. I was eleven years old in 1967 and my dad was a career military man. We were living at McGuire AFB in NJ back then and would occasionally encounter anti war sentiment that I couldn't really grasp at that age. This lapel pin brought some of those memories back. I showed it to my dad and he just snorted.

Bought my avatar in 2013, been parked since 1974. Keys were lost, glovebox locked. I fabbed up a special tool, reached up from under the dash and loosened the screws holding the latch to the glovebox door, opened it and the light came on! Bonus was the old speed equipment receipt. dated from 1954. Fenton intake and dual carbs with cast headers for a 216. No, they were NOT on the motor when I bought it...

 

I'd love to be listening in to that phone call to the police station.

 

Does a mummified human hand count?The tag was a 31/32 Chicago tag.Guns,money,gold coins,clothes and all kinds of other neat stuff.

Ah yes, "Art Studies". LOL! I recall back issues of National Geographic were one of the few ways a young fella could find pictures of nekkid womens. Sure, they was from Papua New Guinea or some other wacked out place; and their titties hung down to their waist, but we took what we could get. I guess things have "improved" if ya want to look at it that way.

Bought a 51 Willys panel wagon that had been cut down into a truck from the local “Kidney Car” program. $100 for the truck AS IS. The people who brought it in had loaded it so full of farm junk the wrecker’s forklift would barely pick it up. Set it on the trailer, then drove straight to the steelyard to clean it out. Broken international v8, 2 sets of tractor chains, a bunch of cultivator shovels etc. etc. all got heaved out. On the plus side found it still had a mint Willys script heater, and the original ambulance style doors were behind the cab. Cool things were a Santa Claus sized brass buckle, an antique brass & steel Surveyor’s “chain” and spool, And a brass plate that looked like a cowboy belt buckle. Brass plate turned out to be the emblem off a 1920’ish Atwater Kent Radio. Steelyard guys gave us $135 for the scrap we unloaded, (free truck) and I traded the Brass emblem to a radio collector for a complete WWII Ben Hur trailer to pull behind my m37. Side note: I believe Atwater Kent used to make ignition systems back in the early 1900’s which was why I remembered the name after hearing an Old car restorer friend taking about them on his 1910-ish cars.

 

That's crazy. Cool find. I bet there aren't very many of those around.

A buddy of mine was a bodyman. He was restoring a WW II German VW Schwimmwagen (a VW based amphibious military car). He was using a plasma cutter to open up a panel on the right side interior. He found a live 50 caliber round when the plasma cutter discharged it. That was probably 30+ years ago. I think he's STILL shitting his pants.

Found a 1936 Quarter in my 36 Chevy, kinda cool since it had no interior or glass.

 

I bought a PHS special edition TA a number of years ago and proceeded to tear it apart for a full restoration. When I removed the left front fender this is what I found

If you know f bodies, especially cars with AC there is absolutely nothing inside this cavity and no reason to cut a door in the fender...unless you are smuggling something that is worth taking the fender off the car to access.
This was a real "Bandit" trans am.

 

In the glove compartment of the 53 Merc parts car I bought in December. A "Lucky Elephant" popcorn box just like the ones we used to buy as kids when dad drove us to town in the 52 Merc. That was a real flashback.
