Projects I want some new body shop inventions !!!

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 31Vicky with a hemi, Dec 21, 2017.

  1. Ok so I know how it goes, want in one hand and ,,,,
But it would be nice if :

A Body filler that you can slick down and form and get it all perfect perfect then spray the hardener on it and it sets. It should Work Just like the clay modeling guys stuff then kick off after its sprayed.

We do the same shit as this guys but with sand paper that wears out on hard materials - the difference is this guy says it's fun and he never gets tired of it. His shaping tools are probably decades old.

How about sanding sticks that look like a pencil and that you can use like a pencil eraser to sand with. Get all those details and various grits too.

How about wet sand stones, like a hone stone instead of paper, for flat and low crown panels.

While I'm at it, how about paint that repels dirt and bugs instead of attracts dirt and bugs.
Do you want to know if a place is surgically clean? Just paint something and the wet paint will try to tractor beam dirt in from the moon. If that paint invention actually happens just skip the wet sand stones:).

Asking too much ? I told Santa

  2. I will work fine if you only want to outer surface of your filler to harden. How much working time do you need? Evercoat makes a filler that at 75 degrees has 40 minutes of working time 80 minutes at 60 degrees.

I want enough money to farm out all of my bodywork.

  6. I want a pet monkey that can do the work for me! :D HRP

  7. I want a transporter badge so Scotty can beam me up.

But this "modeling then hardening later" stuff might not be that far out. They already have resins that can be molded and then hardened with UV light. (My dentist uses it all the time.)

  8. If yer gonna wish, wish big!

  9. Oh no, it's got to harden all the way thru. Even if you had to bake it:)
It's also the getting it slick and perfect perfect part.

That only works on the paint side. DOH!!:p

  12. Obviously but a spray on hardener would never be able to accomplish that with any consistency of cure.

Maybe something that cures with humidity like windshield urethane.

  14. Believe me this stuff is researched endlessly and the bottom line is market research shows that the vast majority of end users have very little appetite for changing the way body fillers work so radical changes are unlikely.

Only one thing worse than sanding rock hard plastic filler and that is having to dig it out because it didn't get hard enough.

  16. That's why it's a new invention ,
And you better not tell Santa about your market research.
I don't care how they do it, but they should.
In this world I'm supposed to believe the sent men to the moon and I'm also to believe they can't "accomplish a consistency of cure" ? Well one of those is BS

I have had limited success in coaxing the run on to the floor.

  20. I want wet/dry sandpaper with sticky back for a long board

  22. Eastwood has that. It's from the line of soft sanders but you can stick it on anything. Up thru 2500 grit
It's not cheap, when it's wet the sticky gives up before the paper is done. I've let it dry and sprayed it with some glue from the craft store and re stuck it.

  23. how about a filler sanding machine that you can program? example: program to 1934 ford 3w driver door, roll it up to the side of the car, attach to known points, as indicated by computer screen, on edge of door. set laser pointer, push scan, insert bondo cartridge, push go. note time of completion and move to a second machine on the other side of car. the machine then sprays the mixed filler in the low spots, then applies heat when complete a set of router bits machine the slightly high filler while a vacuum sucks the dust away. bell rings when done, at which point you have the second one running and refreshed your coffee. repeat with the next body part. then the booth.

one body guy and two machines can complete multiple "hits" a day.

It would be a shame to let all that hand work of getting just the right angle and shape that's so desired just go to waste. [IMG]
