Thanks guys ! Fitting door tops today then a soak in vinegar to get the goddamn galvanization off . Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I've sold a couple of Brookville 3 windows, I didn't pay any attention to the fact that they were galvanized?
Flop is this basically the same chop as Ben’s car? It definitely seems cut down into the cool zone. Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
Thanks folks ! Nice and easy just like chopping a model a Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Did some things different this time around and very happy with it . Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Chopped a 36 Buick 3 window..forced the b pillar roof section , when I cut out the bracing , I heard a bang.door gap was way off....recut the b pillar and relief cuts...etc...great job ..
I have heard too, that the doors were galvanized. Even some pics show them to have a more silver like finish, compared to the bare metal body.
Last 3 I did had galvanized dooors and decklids . And one had the rear window panel galvanized . Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Have you noticed any of the welds more brittle on panels that have been galvanized? I know you strip the "to be welded" area first. That's a hazard in itself...
Could it maybe be aluminized like exhaust tubing is? Usually a thinner coating, and easier to weld. Plus welding on it won't kill you like welding on galvanized steel will.
No this is straight up white floaty things in the air and ruining gas lenses like it’s going out of style with all the crap popping back when you start an arc . Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
For what reason ? If it welds like galv smells like galv puts white things in the air like galv it’s a good chance it’s galv . Wear your respirator remove as much as ya can and weld away . Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
It's not galvanised fellas, it's zinc coated. Galvanising is a hot dip process. This stuff is I think a plating process. In the uk it's called Zintec, but that might be a brand. It has a uniform surface finish, unlike galvanising, and it is a very light coating which doesn't take much to remove for welding. It's the stuff that many / most modern cars are made of. My Brookville 3w has the 2 doors and the trunk lid made of it. Presumably they didn't make the whole body out of it for the problems in welding it? I dunno. Chris
This seems like it's skewing from the point. I don't give a fuck what it's coated in. Flop keep on it, shit looks amazing. I hope you could chop my 34, galvanized or not...
Oh Man!!! LOVE the chop as well as the quality. Looking at the two different pics of the chopped 3W 's. It went from a COOL Hot Rod to Double Down Bad Ass Looking Hot Rod. Keep up the great work. Its' a frigging work of art on wheels.
