That day when the northern hemisphere will start tipping back toward the sun. The days will slowly get longer, the average daily temp will start to increase, and before long, we'll see the first Robins of spring, and the new growing season will be upon us.
The days of me feeling cold all the time will be gone, and I'll no longer have to fight the prehistoric, caveman-like urge to crawl into a hole and hibernate until spring arrives.

It's a cruel joke that the winter solstice is also the first day of winter.

Next up is the Vernal Equinox. Hell, we knew old Vernal back home and were surprised as hell to find he had a day named after him!

  7. It certainly won't be getting warmer here in fact the exact opposite but it will be nice to start moving away for the 7:27 of daylight we will have today.

  8. At least the days will get longer now and maybe, just maybe, we’ll have a white Christmas.
    MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYBODY. Stay Well.

Supposed to get chilly here tomorrow (that storm from the PNW is blowing our way). But still not as bad as my brother is experiencing right now...he's at the South Pole, for work, playing with the telescope. This is when the sun gets the highest on the horizon, and it stays up for months, then disappears for months.

Whew, now maybe if it starts to warm up, I can actually get something done on my roadster that's still sitting in the freezing barn...

The coldest days of the year are ahead for us Michiganders. And I can't wait! I love the cold. Love playing in the snow with my kids.

Brrrr...another 32* day (early morning) here in otherwise 'Sunny California'. Helped young wife Joey unroll the car cover from her nice O.T. BMW convert (with the optional hard top) Off to work, as I started her Hi-Zoot DOHC 6 with variable valve timing...I quickly exited, assisting her as she planted her slim, shapely frame in the Sport Seat...
She hit the switch for 'warm seats', and backed out of our 'new' car port. 'Bye, Babe...Careful of that gas pedal...LOL
    Leadfoot Joey.

I'll start my '55 100 in a minute, Really ought to pull that heater core...got the valve closed, new core sprung a leak onto the carpet, CRAP!!!!! Phooey! That heater core's damn near new, got it from Mike's Radiator just before Sean went to work there, when...???? Crap again, it was in 2008. Time flies, and I don't even know it!

Now, the Northern Hemisphere is tipping toward the sun! Good thing THAT didn't get by me... Hrrumph!

I felt it too, I think. Sort of like the stop of a poorly tuned elevator. I like the idea that the days are getting longer from here on....I call it my favorite day of the year. Another thing to look forward to.

Shortest day of the year, December 21st.

  21. I celebrate with my annual Winter Solstice Party!
Starts at sunset, 4:45 here in central Iowa.
Huge Bon fire, hot chili, hotdogs and coco, and about 30 crazy friends to help keep the darkness at bay for a while.
Thought about getting the 3 cars out too, but there's a chance of freezing rain.
    Oh well, party on!

we had weather in the 40s all week, all but the snow mounds are gone, but they are talking about getting hit again this weekend. Hopefully I can get my snow blower back together before it gets to bad out.

Here in Central Finland the sun was above horizon for five hours today.
In Sodankyla, which is fairly big town in Lappland, the sun went down yesterday and the night will be 96 hours (four days) long. But that is not bad compared to Utsjoki, which is the northmost town in Finland. There sun went down November 26th and will raise in end of January for the first time. The night will last 1250 hours or 52 "days".

Well, Pete, I think there is something wrong with you! I was in the Army with a couple of guys from International Falls, MN, and they were a little off, too. They used to tell stories about it being 40 below and laughing because one of the guys truck started while the other one's truck did not. There was something wrong with them, too.

No offense, but if I were never to see another snowflake again, I would be a happy person.
