History New England Guys! Anyone recognize this old hot rod?

1930/31 Model A Coupe. Looks to have been an early build originally. Only history I know is the last owner bought it in the late 70's/80's from a guy in Uncasville, Connecticut. It had been powered by a Chrysler Hemi that twisted the frame so badly it was taken off the road and the entire front end cut off. Looks to have been red, dark blue, turquoise, then black with flames. Chop looks to be about 3". Any leads would be appreciated!

That poor old thing looks to be in tough shape on the top and bottom, front and back. But don't give up on it. You can bring it back.

Hey Dean. Ian T's brother here. I remember seeing the car, together, at a show, either in East Hampton, or Haddam Neck, in the very early 1980's.

Grab that grille on the shed wall too. It is worth some coin.

I just sent a cab and grille across the country, to the town next to where Dean lives, for a childhood friend of mine, who is going to build up a nice street truck. California clean, with grille trim intact!

Funny, I have been seeing Roger's band play out since I was a wee lad.

 

My '51 Merc came from Maine (I think) and has that exact same sticker in the window. Who knows, maybe they were parked in the same show some time years ago. I'll take a pic when I get a chance.

The coupe could use some love but looks like it's still very saveable and it's got a bit of history to boot, good find! Did you buy it, or just go look at it, or ?

 

That sticker is the first NSRA decal from the early 70's.

Yeah, shame it was left to rot.
And to boot, it sure looks like there was some less than kosher bodywork done at one time that's all coming back out; pop riveted panel along the base of the deck lid covered with filler. emt tubing for the roof insert molded in with filler. Drip rails molded with filler. Hardware hinges used for deck lid hinges.
It needs everything and a guy might be time ahead starting with a more solid body, but it being an old Hot Rod really pulls you in to want to save it.

Yeah, I am kind of a snob. I like the east coast style and never really been a fan of Hi-boys.
However I do like all automotive history.

But lets keep this thread about finding the history this this coupe.

 

A friend of mine found a picture of the car together on the wall at Norwich Auto Parts. It was powered by a 392 Hemi and was last seen on the road in the early 80's. Apparently it had a run in with a stone wall which ended it's days on the road. Trying to get in touch with the old owner now, stay tuned!...

Fuck yeah - that is awesome - I would re bondo the bodywork, shoot it in single stage, re-create the crude flames and rock that thing with a BBC, cragers and a home made chassis WoooooHoooo

 

Probly rattled itself to death,good thing nobody was killed in that.seal up the joints with caulking ,roller paint it and leave it in the yard.

 

Staring downhill, out of a chopped A, w/a visor? "Honest officer, never even saw ya there!"

 

Hope you get a chance to save it.
So many NE guys on here wouldn’t hesitate to build that car and drive it.

I lived in the Uncasville area until the fall of 85 and don't ever remember seeing that car.

you could post an old cat turd on the HAMB and someone would chime in and tell you what old HOT ROD it was found in.

 

Did you buy the car?

 

A lot of New England hotrods have started out with way less than that. Hopefully it can be saved by someone.
