Projects 1929 model A

Well I finally ended up with a model A, I have always wanted one since I was a young teen and now nearly 40 years later I have one. It's not perfect but it's pretty straight with no rust issues and runs and drives. I wanted one not chopped or channeled (prefer to do that myself). It has a rebuilt 1947 Flathead with manual 5 speed, 8 inch rear, superbell front axel, it does need some love though. The gauges, interior, and wiring need to be gone through along with checking every nut and bolt on the chassis for safety reasons. Needless to say I'm really happy with it so far, and by the way before anyone mentions the wheel and tire combo, they are coming off for a set of chrome wheels and some wide white tires....☺

Wow nice start. Looks well built.
I’d suggest to not install chrome reverse with this rebuild.
A flathead in the car indicates a late 40’s early to mid 50’s build. Chrome reverse didn’t become popular until 59-60.
I’d suggest early wires or caps and painted reverse rims.

I finally got around to taking some outside pics, this weekend I plan to rebuild both 94,s and replace clutch and pressure plate. Seems the person wanted a race style pressure plate which makes it way to hard to drive.... View attachment 3739798 View attachment 3739798

 

Actually by the time people were running the v8 -post ww2- they would have ditched the wire wheels for the 40-48 solid disc wheels. You also saw changes in the headlight size around then.

It would not be un believable for an earlier built car to gain the fenders back and some chrome wheels and white walls in n the late 50’s.

These cars where updated all the time.

I’d say order some chrome 40 ford style chrome wheels and bias okie white walls. Run them with no hub caps and I bet that thing looks awesome with the rake and stance it has now!

-by the way speedway is now carrying wheel smiths- made in America- 40 ford style wheels in chrome in 5x5.5 and 16x4.5 like a stock wheel is.

Stock hubcaps don’t fit you’d need the wheel smith ones but who runs caps on chrome 40 ford wheels? Anyhow they are waaaaay cheap for what they are, I bought a setnfor my ford and I’m super happy with them

That's what I was thinking, it would help with breaking up the black.

 

Today I plan to take replace the clutch and pressure plate, should be easy enough I hope lol. I did get my CA plates and registration yesterday which in this state is no small task, only took two trips to the DMV....
After crawling around the car last I found I have alot of things to do, one is the wiring, seems I don't have break lights. And some are saftey related, seat belts, battery relocation, brakes, and the list goes on.
Well got to run and get started.....

Yes it did! I bought it from a guy in Mariposa named Harold. Do you know this car?

 

Well got the transmission and all pulled only to find out the parts I ordered were wrong....made a call to Speedway to figure out what I need, should be here by Thursday. Of course you take apart one thing and find 10 other thing to fix or redo. I did rebuild both carbs today, and walk the the dogs with my wife.....lol

It looks exactly like a car that a local guy (Roseburg, OR) built a few years back. His name is Mike Jaramillo. I didn't know that he sold it. I will check with him.

 

It's the same car. I have his name on the title. Not a bad car, there are some things that are pretty sketchy but Im working them out as I go along.

 

Looks like A great start, but I might be A little partial. Clutch, safety issues and Drive! Keep us posted, Carp.

Thanks Knuck, bought it about 2 yrs. ago and have been slowly trying to make it more HAMB friendly. Also, retired about the same time so now I am on a fixed income. Oh well, life ain't necessarily easy, yours looks like it has good "bones". Keep us updated, Carp

 

Well after nearly 3 weeks I have everything back together. Still working out some bugs with the clutch adjustment and carbs but it is drivable. Decidied to buy new 97,s...and go from there. Wife and I took down the highway a few miles and enjoyed every mile.

OK guys, Im thinking of going to chrome steel wheels with whitewalls. My question would be fenders or fender less. If I keep the fenders my rear tire would need to be around 29 in dia. Or less. Any ideas?
