History 1933 - 1936 Willys, picture thread

  1. Compulsion is the original Ohio George Montgomery coupe before Bob Masters bought it and started restoration. Then as we all know George and his son bought it back, finished the car and it now calls the Ford Museum home

1933 Willys 77 I never got to the next page where you posted that. I received an alert and never went beyond it. It's been a long day for me, I need to read everything first before I post.

The green 33 looks like the Hamm & Hamm gasser out of Jeffersonville, IN. They owned a Phillips 66 gas/service station on 10th Street and kept it in one of the bays of the station for a number of years. The last time I saw it run was in the mid 70's at Ohio Valley Dragway.

George Gallimore was the next owner in Memphis. An injected BBC was installed, which wheel stood the car and caused a repaint. These are the colors it wore when I bought it from Darrell Woods in East Texas. COMPETITION HEAD SERVICE was my shop. I believe this was a display at the county fair.
It dont seem like this was very long ago, But the two boys in the picture are grown men now.

I saw the Jackson Bros. video of the crash of the restored B/C car. It looked totaled, but later I heard an attempt to restore it again was underway. Any updates on that?

Wow, I never would have thought that mangled up mess could be brought back. Is that a replica or a rebuild, resurrected from the left over usable parts?

I mean can you believe that front axle on that S&S KS Pittman 33! the whole center section of the stock Willis I beam axle is all cut away! Then, on top of that, it's mounted on what like 5" riser blocks. Yikes! Then run through the traps @ 143 mph maybe!

  24. Not long after that he changed over to a Don Long tube axle. Which by the way was in it when he crashed the car in Texas. For those that don't know the coupe was bought by Chuck Stolze of S&S in Falls Church , VA for K.S. to drive as a team car. He painted it S&S red sent it to K.S. in CA and Zuechel built the hemi for it. Chuck bought the car from Jim Clinton so it was originally the Bach's Body Shop burgundy car powered by a small block Chevy. Jim Clinton built the car with the hogged out stock axle which by the way has a 2 or 3" section in the middle still connecting the top and bottom together. If you find color pics of the Bach's Body Shop coupe you'll see the axle and also the white and red interior that was still in the car when it crashed.

  25. Actually riser blocks & chrome, drilled front axles are factory stock for pre-war Willys. Along with Olds rear ends, Chrysler hemi engines with GMC 671 blowers, 4spe Dual Range Hydramatic trannys, Halibrand small-window mags, one piece fiberglass front ends. All standard factory options.
