That in itself just takes skill and money.But the tightrope he is walking is making it streetable, and truly able to be driven hundreds of miles without disaster. Go to a bracket race. How many even, 11 second cars are driven in as opposed to trailered? 10 and 9 second cars? VERY,very few. And 8 seconds? When was the last time you saw that.
Yeah, there's the 6 second "street legal" cars, lucky to make it from the track at all.
Going 8's for a full on racer isn't so hard, driving a few hundred miles to race the car is.
THAT is what makes this so interesting.

 

Except people like Brian and others are running 6's and 7's and driving from track to track all week....I'd call those street cars!

I have several friends driving completely legitimate 8.50 cars with turbo LS engines. Kind of takes the fun out out of old engines, but they sure run good. Squirrel probably saw them on drag week ('80s Fairmonts, Mustangs, Malibus)

 

Yup, it's pretty easy to run 8s in a street car, with modern technology.

I just have to do it the hard way!

 

I wouldn't call any of them street car.....maybe race cars that are driven on the streets.

 

that's an old argument.....and there's just no convincing folks who won't get out there and do it themselves.

But the guys who spend a week driving and racing, know that they're both race cars, and street cars. No matter what the naysayers think.

They are street cars period. They drive on any kind of road in any weather both day and night. Alot of what you see at the local drive in would have a hard time surviving drag week. Its not reality tv. Drag week is the real thing.

 

This made my friggin' week! We should live in a world where a guy hears this multiple times a week!

 

Can't wait for the cutting to begin. A street legal Sox and Martin car would be RAD!!!!!!!!!!

 

Thought it was understood we aren't talking about turbos, chips, EFI and computer crap.
Know nothing about it, not interesting at all.That's why the NHRA "big show" is such a bore.Yawn, 3 second ET's.
But no personality, no color, no nothing. I'll take co called "nostalgia" racing any day.
This IS the HAMB guys, not Yellowbullet!

The NHRA requirements for physicals changed about a year and a half ago. A competition license is required for all cars running 9.99 or quicker. However, you now do not need a physical unless you are going 7.50 or quicker. Still need the license for the 7.50 to 9.99 slot, but no physical. Here's the info ... he would probably be best going for a 4B license.

The ramp truck is another thing that's been simmering in my mind...but first things first.

 

I had a friend that parked his 1964 Ramp Truck behind his shop around 85 or so. He's been gone about 8 years but the Widow still lives at the same address. I see his Son once in a while. Last I knew the Truck was still there. I'll look him up and ask about it. Who knows.

I know it's December and we have to wait patiently. But I've seen Santa (Jim) all over the HAMB but very little here on this thread. Where's the pictures Santa!?

 

This morning's picture. Notice the engineering scale on the clipboard...I'm doing the interesting stuff, that's not very photogenic.

I have a line on at least one Dodge Van axle.

I'm working on figuring out all the pieces....where the frame will go, how much of the body to cut away, what rear end and suspension to use, where the cage will be, the firewall location and construction ideas, how to make the front fiberglass, and how the parts could be attached, and which of them move, etc.

 

I disagree. Napkin thoughts fascinate me.

 

I'll post up some sketches when I get something sketched. Right now it's just a bunch of little line segments. And lots of stuff going on in my head.

 

Better make sure you got gas in your torch bottle, yer gonna need it!
