I have seen so many pictures of cars running pitman arms up but clearly it’s not the set up I have.
I just have to figure out how to get around the hairpins ... I’ll be browsing for a bit. Still making progress though.

Got the header welded in and the beautiful windshield frame from Mike B. chopped and mounted for now.
I gained 1-1/4” of vision eliminating the old header. Beautiful !

Have something different mocked up for the roof at the front behind the header
    I’m working on that tomorrow...

    Thanks guys !

Turn right go left ... got it !

Does anyone happen to have a minty 28/29 hood for my sedan ? I’m really only looking for the top panels. I have a doner hood from a who knows what I can make something from but a nice A hood would be ideal.

Dig in those parts piles fellas !! Christmas is coming up, you may need extra cash for mommas gift !

I went Black Friday Barn picking... scored these for some additional garage storage. [IMG]
Now I can keep my welding/ grinding helmets, gear tucked away.

    Plus it looks cool

In my brain I saw something smoother and rounded behind the new header.
This is it, just in metal.
I used a sub rail section I bought from a guy a few years back.
Been hanging onto it not wanting to cut it up. Until now. It worked perfectly as the height of it fit the channel for the wooden roof rails.
Lot of cuts to make the sweep I needed
    [IMG]
    [IMG][IMG]
I made this pattern off the back panel of the sedan roof.
I couldn’t get the right sweep it had so I had to open the radius up a bit.
Made it work then flipped it for the pass side
    [IMG][IMG]
    Dirty glove trick
    [IMG]
Transferred it to sheetmetal. I tacked two pieces together and cut them the same time to make life easy.
I now have some protection for the dash if I ever get caught in the rain w no roof.
I plan to run a removable panel for the hot days.
Fillers are sitting in place, I’ll get them fitted soon then attach everything together.

I have a front end that came off an early AA with a bent tie rod and one off an A with a bent drag link.

    @Mikel50 I think your next tool should be a shrinker/stretcher! ;)

Ya. But the one I was going to buy Sunday wouldn’t touch this gauge. It’s far too heavy. I need to get a heavy duty one. About a grand I think. (W / the foot pedal)
    After Xmas.

I like doing (I say like but mean typically have to out of necessity) more with less even though I bought a ton of new tools recently. I like figuring things out... sometimes the hard way unfortunately.

  11. Your work on the front end of the roof ^^ is nice. And I like the way you did it.
Are you planning to put some kind of upholstered panel in there?

    Thank you.

You got it with the roof insert... something to match the firewall and wheels.

Very nice Mike. That is going to look pissah! I have a cheap shrinker/stretcher and it does work on the subrail pieces. I had to make several passes with it but. . .

Wasn't sure how to get the right shape to the visor/new roof panel. I remembered I had an extra metal roof bow in my parts pile. Cut it to fit inside under the new panel just behind the header. Gave me the exact shape I needed then got everything clamped/cleco'ed in place and tacked everything together.

    I like it.

  18. You’re saying this before you weld and grind and then blend all those slices, correct?

Just giving you a hard time- it looks great! Reminds me of Bass’ car but he had the front section filled because he grafted in a 34 (I think) front windshield. I love the look as well as the execution of what you are doing though- pretty much defines ‘hotrodding’!

BTW, someone does make a ‘easy grind’ mig wire. I’ve been meaning to check it out. Would make your job easier if it worked.

Haha I started on them last night.
I’m not sure what car you’re referring to. I’d like to check it out.

That's it bud, making it happen with the stuff you have in stock. Repurposing, cutting, making it fit. Good job

Few small “updates” I guess ...
got the body bolted to the chassis, got the tabs welded on the 49 dash and mounts on the cowl to get the dash mounted to the cowl.
    So that’s done.
Working on getting the steering box/tube mounted and positioned so I know what I need for a final column drop.

    Till then ...

I messed around with a set of torches from my father for almost an entire week. For the life of me I could not get them to work right, so I finally put them to the side borrowed a brand new set from my brother cut, welded, heated and bent up my headlight stands till I was happy.

    [IMG][IMG][IMG]

I’m now getting the steering box mounted, not exactly the way I had planned however. The hairpins I’m running are long and they’re interfering with the Pitman arm and drag link location.

So this is my answer to that ...

    [IMG][IMG][IMG]

It makes everything fit with almost zero modifications.
    Minus actually building the mount.

After staring at this all last night I decided to change the final design and eliminate the plate going down the outside of the frame.
I’m going to make it mount to the top and inside of the frame instead.
I want it to have that clean look I’m going for.

    To be continued ...
