  1. Thanks guys. I guess Abraham Lincoln was right when he said, "Don't believe everything you see on the internet."

Now... Back to Squirrel's awb 'Cuda.:)

I'm planning to leave most of the floor and firewall and front structure intact, and on the suspension. It's possible someone will want it as a roller....and none of it will work on the car as I'm building it. But I'll probably leave the rockers on the body, just to keep the door openings the right size/shape. And they will give me a solid place to attach it to the new frame.

    We'll see what happens.

  3. Just FYI. here's the Petty car under construction.

Oh come on man! On this project, MONEY IS NO OBJECT!!!!

It's your money, not mine, so it's no object! See how that works?

Oh, I'm busy. Did you know that nice back glass weighs 40 lbs?

  8. I would have sworn it was only 38!
Actually that's one BIG piece of glass!
    Now, get back to work!

Combining both quotes to say this. By keeping the whole car together you'll have your actual shape to make your fender mold's by filling the (steel) fender to (steel) door gap/s with something as easy as tape then run your mold over both to get your long fenders going. The hood, well just make two glass hoods and add the back half one to the back of the whole hood. Of coarse there will be some additional cuts and tweaks and more glassing to be done but as a whole you'll have things well underway.

  10. That's exactly what I did on the AMX. I sold the cast off for 2K without motor or trans. Here's how I made the first cuts with the plazma. Some final trimming left me something to mount Alum panels to.

It will be a two seater. I'm building it for Drag Week, and that's a two man gig.

What do you need to do about a license to go 8 sec? I have been looking at schools to get a license and that cost a lot of cash. Can you do it at a track, and just turn in some runs?

There is a Hawley class scheduled for Tucson Dragway in April. Yes it costs money. I think it would be worth it.

    Jim,

A friend of mine here runs a Nostalgia Funny Car (Suzie Q 1957 Chevy w/Chrysler style Hemi POWER). He uses a LENCO with a converter. That car runs 7.00s.

If that interests you, I can get you two together.

"I'm in like Flynn" for the duration of the whole gig. No plans of offering any suggestions on anything as I have complete confidence in Jim on the build and name.:)
And as far as the subject of advice, there are people already posting advice that's waaaay over my knowledge.
But the whole thing has reminded me of back in '65 or '66 when a co- worker bought a nearly new, but used Barracuda with the 4bbl engine, unsure of trans.
Was working in the metal finish area of the Lakewood Fisher Body plant in Atlanta, GA, and believe me, ol' Eddie took an awful lot of razzing about his choice of car brands!:D

the Lenco sounds badass but if you think about torque flight talk to John Cope at Cope Racing Trans.... That's all they do 727's for EVERY power level and budget.

Agree. Jim will do what Jim want's to do. Anything I do submit on this thread is to be only taken as an approach. Now will what Jim does be different? Time will tell. Bottom line, it's just fun to be part of this.

  27. Some casual Googling reveals a couple sources for doors , bumpers and such:
    http://marktesting.glasstek.com/products/plymouth/barracuda/

Some of these fiberglass parts may be almost as heavy as steel though.

You might talk to the Renteria Brothers too, their 64 Valiant runs in the 5's at near 260 mph! I'm sure they can source 'glass parts for the body. They are SUPER nice guys too, at least they were too me.Talked to them years ago at Famosa.
    //www.facebook.com/Renteria-Brothers-Racing-1592565837659549/

As a Mopar fan from way back, I confess their Valiant ( and wagon pushcar) are my favorite modern racecars.Yeah, NOT what you are building but they might have a line / advice on hemi's as well.
Here's the Valiant before they went full on ProMod.

As I said, MoPar guy from way back, REALLY loved these "Cuda's at the time! Owned a 66 that I stupidly wrecked.
A fun little car! I really do have a soft spot for them. I know YOU are the expert here, but as somebody else said, it's FUN to be a part of this in any way!
BEST THING ON THE HAMB IN YEARS!
