    Doing some rust repair before trying to fit the back on. IMG_7699.JPG IMG_7700.JPG IMG_7701.JPG IMG_7702.JPG IMG_7722.JPG IMG_7724.JPG IMG_7729.JPG IMG_7730.JPG IMG_7731.JPG

The top of the trunk does not fit correctly yet, I will be cutting out the flange above the trunk and putting a new one in to get the gaps perfect.

Put in cross bracing for the quarter panels to keep the gaps right.
    IMG_7786.JPG

Got some new parts in, wide fives and some 36 rear ends. Would love to get my hands on some 18 inch wide fives. I have a pair of open wide five drums, the star pattern style, need two more.

    IMG_7789.JPG IMG_7790.JPG
Found that the cross bracing wasn't sturdy enough, with all the fitting of the 5 widow top it kept want to pull the quarters in. I put a bar across the top of the trunk to keep them from separating. Seemed to do the trick!

Cross brace on top of panels

Making sure to keep the lines and gaps to exact 5 window specs.
    IMG_7906.JPG

Needed a little help from a tie down to keep it positioned right.
    IMG_7908.JPG
Getting the quarters trimmed down to get ready for final placement.

    Tacked in place

Final weld. It took me two weeks and a lot of hours just to get the top positioned right to where it can be welded in place. The top was taken on and off multiple times. The trunk is also just sitting inside not positioned correctly so it looks a little off and goofy. Just need to find 33/34 hinges to get it right.

Had to take a section out of the old sedan c pillar to graft into the b pillar of the damaged 5 widow
    IMG_7938.JPG IMG_7951.JPG IMG_7952.JPG

    Mocking up the graft.
    IMG_7953.JPG IMG_7954.JPG IMG_7955.JPG

Was able to get my mitts on an original 5 widow door to get exact specs so I can weld the window tops back on.

    IMG_7956.JPG

Still need to planish the welds to get get metal perfectly smooth.

This is where I think a lot of guys who do conversions come up short. Nailing the lines while grafting the two roofs together is critical. It's gonna take a lot of clamps to get it right. This part has also taken a couple of week of tinkering and manipulating pieces to get them to look perfect and fit.

$150 for that door! Holy shit, that was a score.

My '33 still had issues at the B pillar with alignment when I sold it. It wasn't done and I'm sure those things are all fixable, but I agree, that's a really tricky spot to get right.

The door still has the price on it from many many years ago, wish they were still that cheap! It was borrowed from a friend.

If anything this thread puts me off attempting such a conversion. Hats off to you though.

Grafting the roofs together. Trying to get the crown and lines perfect.

    IMG_8146.JPG IMG_8147.JPG
This angle is looking straight down on the "sunroof" the five window doesn't want to match up exactly with the sedan roof. I will end up cutting out the corner to match it.

    IMG_8148.JPG IMG_8149.JPG IMG_8150.JPG IMG_8151.JPG
The big contraption on top of the car has the original crown of a five window, I am using it to help match my roof while it gets tacked.

  23. Looking good! Thanks for sharing the details on how you are making the roof line match up.

This is what's going on up top, looking down on the roof. Lots of cutting an splicing. Do you see the factory lead spot? Had to melt it out obveosly to weld. Gonna have to re apply when the body work is closer. Had to make a relief cut in the corner, that section will take a little bit of stretching as well.

    IMG_8187.JPG
LOOK WHAT MADE ITS WAY INTO THE SHOP! Freshly rebuilt flathead motor. So excited for this bad boy. Gonna paint the block a light gold.

    IMG_8188.JPG IMG_8189.JPG
Decided to lay the unflanged roof insert in to see if the crown matched up with the roof. Sits very nicely.

    IMG_8190.JPG IMG_8191.JPG IMG_8193.JPG IMG_8194.JPG
Gonna take a little more work to get all the lines to flow but off to a good start. You can see where I had to cut the corner out and slide it an inch or so to match. Almost ready to weld.
