    Commonly done does not equal sensible or safe. Torching a spring ruins the the integrity of the spring.

    Smoking, after all, was thought to be good for you back then. How many of the oldsters on this board are dying, right now, because of just that?

    Torching was foolish then. It is foolish now. Doubly so now that all it takes to do this properly is a cutoff wheel on a hand grinder. On this car, with a spring compressor in use, you don't even need to take the car apart.

    He is looking to build a car that has the look of the period. There is no sense in reproducing the inherent danger of the period look, done in the period fashion, when it is so easily avoided, and for almost no effort, or cost.

    I may not be clear in my post. I dont rekomend to torch the spring.
    What i ment was how it problaby had been modified by a kid then if they where
    allowed to mess with the new car.

    Repaint it the factory gold, and make it loud.

  9. Yup! I remember those days well! N50-15's on Cragars, sure ww can make them fit, just get some longer shackles and a set of Gabriel High Jackers!
