Event Coverage John Helmuth & His Film Camera

Amazing. There is just something about the look of an image on film.
This one really trips my trigger:

It's all great! really love the depth of field, graininess, and color on this Buick shot.

 

I've been shooting film for over 30 years. In that time I've had some great mentoring from sages much wiser than me in the ways of film. Yet, there's younger generations that are getting into film and knocking it out of the park. John seems to be one of those individuals that even an old dog can glean lessons from.

 

Ryan, thank you so much for the support and kind words. I'm always honored to have my work featured on here. So happy to see the hard (and as you've said—expensive) work pay off.

 

Film just adds a lot of depth and feel to photographs, in my opinion. I haven't got the hang of using light and angles in the digital world. Hell I didn't get the hang of it with film either who am I trying to kid! Very cool work John thanks for showing it off for us Ryan. Joe

 

I came to the conclusion a long time ago that learning the basics of photography would take me a lifetime just to become mediocre, yet I have seen individuals that astound me with their innate ability to achieve marked success within a short period of time. HRP

 

The colors seem so much more vibrant

Thanks for putting these photos up. As someone who shot a lot of film "back in the day" I really appreciate seeing what John is doing to keep the medium alive. Very well done and I for one would like to say, MORE, we need MORE!

 

Film is art and it's always a treat to see the work of someone who does it well.

 

I had a friend once (I have had others since) that used to compare "film vs. digital photography" to "vinyl vs. CDs", preferring the imperfection of the vinyl, well not so much "imperfection" per se but more accurately the characteristics and qualities of the recording and storage process from eras long past. "New" isn't always "improved".

 

Film is TRADITIONAL. Joe

I miss shooting 35mm film. Had my good Olympus OMPC and all lenses and filters stolen out of my truck, while racing in Vancouver. Photos worth more than equipment.

Yeah that brought some good moodiness into the room...you feel within those shots...The subject matter was stellar as well. Thanks for the Art of Showcasing Art through Film and an accomplished Visual Artist. The first shot which in my photography stupidness, I'm assuming was exposed to light reminds me a little of vintage primitive flames a wee bit. Great work @HelmuthBrothers and @Ryan don't be to hard on yourself as you turn out all kinds of great photographs that overflow with cool too.

 

theres something great "little page"-ish about those b&w interior shots with flash. I love it.

 

Excellent, excellent photography.....I really like the B/W pics also. Reminds me of Andy Southard Jr’s work back in the 50’s and 60’s.

 

That was the idea behind the BW shots actually. I'm glad it translated that way! I have a project in the works that these shots will be used in.

 

Although I Love the color, the black and white just kind of "Takes me back." Know what I mean?
