looks great, one day hope I will have enough practice and patience that I can weld that much real-estate and not warp it beyond my ability to straighten it back out.

Id guess about 6-8 hours on fabrication, fitting and welding, then the rest on metal finishing?

Wow. You did it the right way. I just welded the seam in my '53 pickup hood and welded in some bridge patches in a few places.

 

That looks great!! Did you have the car there to fit the hood throughout the project? My dad filled a 40 chevy hood like that. When he was done it fit a 40 chevy we had, but the guy took it and had problems fitting it to his car.

 

The car is in another state,i feel pretty confident as the two halves were never totally separated.Ill be sure to update you if the is a problem.thanks for checking out the thread.

I wish it was a faster process, it's not a cheap hobby if you need to have a shop help you with your project.

It appears that you didn’t remove a section of the rear structure. How did you deal with metal finishing that area?

Remember when your dad did the hood in my 41? That was the part of the car I liked best

 

Another idea for the Kustom guys, on my 47 Chevy, my friend, Jersey Mike, was kind enough to make me a peak, with his bead roller, to weld in. I left the hood whole, and cut out about 18 inches at a time and welded in the peaked section.

 

Very nice metal work! Thanks for taking the time to post the pics, your methods and comments.. Its a big help to a beginner, how its supposed to look, and how its done. I'd be happy to have those results in twice the time.

Thanks for the info. I still have that section left to do on my ‘54 hood.
But, I think I’m going to remove the structure, and then eliminate the bolt on section and make the structure one piece to make it look like it was always one piece from factory.
