Moon disc made any car look better and faster. Most of the ones I had were the snap on ones and I don't think I put a set on without putting a dent in at least one............finally a local machismo started making them and I got my first real set up for my 56 raked Ford Convertible........looked Kool but it sure wasn't fast

This is on a car I'm building for competition.
Probably not good for a street car installed this way as a coin will unfasten them.

Did you rent the pattern Disc that MOON has to make the tabs or did you just wing it and make your own?

 

I bought the discs and the jig from Moon Eyes, don't remember the cost. Came with the fasteners. I think the jig was $45, it all came with some instructions and was a pretty simple install.

 

I don't recall the cost of the jig. But if my memory is correct, you buy the jig and then can return it to Moon for credit after preparing your wheels. Mine worked out very well; the discs fit nicely and are really secure.

I just kept it for a wall hanging, figured postage to return it would eat up a third of what I'd get back. I'll probably need it again as I really like the look.

 

Don't throw away the unusable ones, they make good lids for rag barrels.

Do you have a photo of where the piece is welded to the rim ? I've got some deep dish rims I've thought about adding this style disc to.

 

I kind of like the hood & grill. The combination grows on you.

Hello,

Moon Discs have been put on most everything in the automotive world. Our introduction to the Moon Discs (as previously stated) were seeing them on race cars in the old magazines. Also, when my brother bought the 1951 Oldsmobile Sedan he knew right away that it needed something to make it look fast. Of course, the Dodge Lancers and Olds 3 prongs were borrowed from friends, but the big 51 Olds just cried out for something else. Moon Discs.
1957 LONG BEACH

So, by the time we started going to the drags at Lions, the Moon Discs were on the Olds and it was fun driving around in that car. This lasted until he sold that Olds for down payment on a new, black 58 Impala. We taped on the 15 inch “Moons” on the Impala, but it did not have the same effect as on the 51 Olds. The Impala just looked fast sitting there, regardless of the wheels that came with the car from the factory or... It was the body style and design.

We started to go race at Lions and then I noticed that a lot of hot rods and race cars had Moon Discs on them. The 16 mm films showed various drag race cars with their versions of using the Moon Discs. (Moon discs at So Cal Dragstrips) They were mostly on the fronts, but at the end of the movie, there was a record setting, FED from Clay Smith Cams (Glen Stokey) that ran them in the back as well as in the fronts.

The word was, most of the acceleration in the rear tires spun the discs at such a rotation speed that the screws would come off. So, most ran them in the fronts only.

I could be wrong but i think that car lives in Sweden... imported from US. Published in Gasoline Magazine...

 

I had posted that picture on my instagram, the original builder go ahold of me. He is the guy that started The Race of Gentlemen! Go's by Yeolegoast on IG.
He too would like to know where it ended up.
