Hot Rods IS THE TRUNK OF YOUR CAR UPHOLSTERED?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by HOTRODPRIMER, Oct 29, 2017.

  1. Since my cars don't have a trunk I never paid much attention but recently I noticed several cars at a cruise-in that had nice interiors but the trunk lacked any detail at all. HRP

A properly trimmed trunk is about as traditional as you can get. Here's a Watson example...

Trunk of my '40 is upholstered just like the interior. But the only upholstery in BGII, my Hiboy A/V8 is on the seats themselves.

  11. Better than what I saw,one '55 Chevy had a mile deep black paint job with a dark red leather interior but the trunk had some of the original green paint along with over spray primer & black paint and a original green wheel with no tire. HRP

No upholstery, but quite a bit of bodywork just to get it to look like a sort of normal old trunk. But 8" longer than stock.

Of course! You wouldn't want to stash your folding chairs in an inhospitable place would you?

  16. Jim,To be honest,I wouldn't expect to see a nicely detailed trunk in your Chevy II.

It looks good but I know it's a lot more go than show! :D HRP

The owner who had my Lincoln before me went the whole 9 yards, seats, door panels, and yes, the trunk. I'm sure it looked great when it was done, but sitting outside for who knows how many years with no trunk gasket, a vermin infestation, and just general neglect left the inside dirty, but I managed to get the vinyl clean and saved it, but the trunk was a total mess. They had built side boards, a back wall, and a shelf that hid the spare tire mimicking the original factory pieces, sides and back were covered with seat matching vinyl, floor in black carpet. All of it had to go, the rain water rotted the plywood away for the most part because of no trunk gasket letting it in, also the carpet rotted, and it was full of rats nests. I managed to save some of the vinyl pieces, don't know if they'll clean up or not, but I can always use them for patterns. Right now, it looks about like Jim's trunk, only mine is covered in black POR15. After I get it back on the road and repainted, then I can address the truck better.

Detailing a trunk seems like something you'd do if you were REALLY bored or you've run out of things to do to your car. It usually looks great, but it begs the question, "Why?"
