Perfect timing shot, the slicks are still narrow.

Thanks Rootie! That clears up a lot.

BTW, that's Alden Sampson in the white shirt leaning over the car with a cigarette hanging from his mouth.

And I may have my stories mixed up but wasn't Gordon Schroeder on the original Sampson crew? And didn't he end up as the owner of the car after WWII with Spike Jones as the sponsor?

You're right about Schroeder. He started out at Indy working for Cotton Henning and then Sampson. And I'm pretty sure that is Schroeder standing on Sampson's right in the dark shirt.

I still recall the smell of the sun-baked cardboard on the package shelf of my parents' 52 Chevy turtle back.

My first car, a 1950 Studebaker Champion had a valid sticker when I bought it in October,1966, but required a new one in April of the next year, as did everybody else. Texas Inspection Stations were busy in April.

Instantly brought back memories for me traveling cross country when I was about 5 with my Aunt and Cousin in a 53 Buick. Spent a lot of time at the back deck resting like this and playing with my toy cars.

Happiness is: turning on the ol' PC after a day of fishing with my grandson - to find 4 unread pages of the coolest thread on the internet: "Vintage shots from days gone by".

    Thanks guys (and gals)
