It was a 46-48 Chrysler or Plymouth I think, maybe a Dodge, that was kindda rough but have a fairly killer engine and Halibrands and I think Mexican blanket seat cover? The last time I saw it was at the Frog Follies, maybe '90 or '91?

Don't recall the owners name but there was a Mopar four door with heavy original patina and polished Halibrands, loved it.
Fuel pilot Larry Huff had a reeely cool ? Chrysler two door with a blown hemi if my memory is correct.

pre rat rod. cool car. had a name for the style. meant to show people you didn't have to have a finished car to be cool or a high dollar car. build it don't buy it. just have fun.

  12. I remember seeing it in magazines...I'm thinking Rodder's Digest.

Not sure this is the car I remember with the Halibrands Kelly.
I don't recall the name Brutis either.

I remember Brutus. He used to be at the Good Guys run in Perry Ga. It had flowered sheets for seat covers. Big block chevy. I think my wife has a picture. As soon as she finds it I will post it.

And I was thinking a bit more green in color.

With that being said, here’s what I’m thinking. When I started looking into the car is whereabouts and any pictures that people may have, I had made a post on Facebook about it. Someone mentioned that it was Brutis. So I assumed that it was, that was before I realized, I think we have TWO very similar hot rods were talking about here.

  20. Is someone thinking of the Plymouth Ramchargers(?) test mule with the megaphone exhaust? It was ugly pea soup green.

I thought you were talking about the 60's bright orange drag car named Brutus. It was a GM of some kind, Pontiac or Chevy I think. I remember it was in the first issue of Hot Rod Magazine I ever saw, a 1966 issue, in pics of some race coverage, Hot Rod Drags I think. Too many years have went by to remember much about it, but at the time, I thought it was the coolest car on earth....

  23. Didn't Tex Smith have a similar big Chrysler 4 door?

Here's the Brutus that I thought of. However, it was a mid 60's drag car.

YES! That was the car that I thought was the coolest one on earth! I was about 10 years old, the magazine was probably around 3 years old, somebodies older brother had a subscription and passed it down to their kid brother who brought it to school. I probably traded my lunch money for it, and drooled over that issue for a long time. That bright orange drew me right in, along with those cool wheels, Id never seen anything like them before at the time!
    Thanks for the memories!

  29. Nope, I think he called it Walter P. (for Chrysler founder?). But it was a big ol 4 door sedan. No luck on a google picture search either.

I asked a local guy, he remembers it with polished Halibrands and thought it was out of Ohio.
