  1. When I was a kid both front & rear license plates were in use here in South Carolina,I'm
not sure when the laws changed but we only use the rear tag now.

Does you state require a front license plate? HRP

  3. Washington state doesn’t require a front plate, but it’s not a bad idea to have one.

CA requires both. But I have not run a front plate on any of my cars since I started driving 30 years ago.

Nebraska requires front & rear however antique year of vehicle plates okay with rear only. .......A word of caution if your state permits a rear tag only on year of vehicle plates, it is advisable to buy a matching pair or you may find that a single plate purchase is nothing more than a wall hanger if the other plate has already been passed & issued through the DMV.

True that, I don't run a front tag on anything other than some cool stuff I picked up in my travels. We can also register a plate from the year of manufacture if it still has a correct year license sticker on it. Pretty "liberal" state.

Here is the tag on the 62 Nova for example that I bought off e-pay and clear coated when I base/cleared my rims. Front is an old USA-1 tag I had lying around. Sometimes we get it right in this state.

Not true except if your running a historic plate or original thats twenty five years old or older.

  12. We run both in Texas. Although a lot of people run rear only and risk the ticket.

Dealer tags are rear only so I'm in the clear.

According to the nice officer that pulled my son and I over about an hour ago, kindly said that as long as the plate is on the dash or visible to law enforcement,it was okay.Under the seat wont do. OT truck with big cooler where the center of the bumper once was. My son still has 3 hours left on his 10 day temp inspection sticker.
I never had a plate on the front of my tub and never got pulled over in 3 years. Young punks dont get a break:D I have no worries about the boy going in the wrong direction, he is more talented at 25 than most of the want to be guys 10 years older. House than hot rod

Illinois requires both and if you run a lightly tinted or clear plastic cover over them they will remind you that's illegal but will normally let you go. Most Corvettes do not run a front plate and they get hassled.

Not for Collector, YOM, Horseless Carriage, or Street Rod plates. Only rear plate is required.

Only require rear tag if running YOM on cars 25 years old or older in OHIO.
That said, you have to carry the historic plates that are registered to the car in the car.
When you register the car you are issued 2 historic plates, if you want to run the YOM you have to have both, but are only required to run the rear plate. The BMV needs to make a copy of the YOM for their records.

In North Carolina only one plate is issued ! The issued plate is under my front seat ! Upon a law enforcement stops ya all, you have to show the plate issued to that car at that time as I'm running old 1932 plates Carolina ones . road trip 001.jpg

This is true!. Thanks for the clarification.

I have a cop I "know" that shared a factoid during my pat down, license plates are the most reflective area on the car and the easiest spot to hit with a radar gun. Thus the front plate requirement on daily drivers.

Things that make you go hmmmm.
