thinking of installing a 65-68 mustang gas tank in the rear of the sedan were the back seat was. The tank has a flange around it. easy to build a frame for it. any thoughts or ideals?

  2. Maybe a bulkhead for safety.Still going to have a back seat?

I built a square tube frame with a front sheetmetal bulkhead with wood top and back.I used a 69 mustang tank which is 20gal.Hamb member Boones had done pretty much same setup and that's where I got my version. IMG_3706.JPG IMG_3769.JPG IMG_4182.JPG

    Shortypu,
Did you make a seat out of it too, or was it too high for that?

Buddy got a 18 gal. alum. tank off ebay for $72.00 plus shipping... my computer was down... so he bid for me and got me a 12 gal alum.tank for $76.00 plus shipping...
check them closely as they have 2 different filler neck angles...
I added the 2 pick ups, lower one is my reserve .5" from the bottom...
other is 2.5" from the bottom as normal ... a pair of ball valves before a tee and then into the pump...

I believe boones ran it to the outside of the body right below the window.I did the same thing but to the left of the window. The wood will get a thin layer of foam and material to match the front seats. As long as I don't chop it their is room for people. The hard part is getting back their without the stock flip up seats.

  12. I think the OP is working on a sedan.

I got a purpose built tank under the floor with a cut out for the drive shaft.
It holds 23 gallons, helps keep my center of gravity low and does not affect the rear seating.
The gas filler thru the side above and past the rear fender.

Fifty, I thought about doing the same thing!

How are you moving the gas from both sides? A equalizer tube? Small pumps in each side?

Just a small 3/8" diameter equalizer tube up the front end of the tank which works with the rake of the car.
I've never had a problem with it.
I have another Model A (future) project where I will do the same tank again and think I can get 25 gallons capacity.

Wherever you put a gas tank on an A sedan is not ideal. Saddle tanks have problems, Deuce is not bad and inside always worried me with rear end collisions. Mine was behind the back seat. One thing that was bad was the filler was about equal height of the top of the tank, so cornering or parking on angle had gas heading for the filler, keep that in mind. I kinda like SHORTYPU's idea.

That is what I like about my gas tank, as it sits forward of the stock rear cross member, between the long frame rails and aft of the center cross member, so fully surrounded by decent sized metal and below the floor under the rear passengers feet and outside of the cab...
Sadly, it really only works if you use parallel rear 4 bar setup...

  19. That is a good set up, I wish I had done something like that. To be able to get 25 gal tank in an A is great. I set up my rear with ladder bars angling to the center and used up too much room.

I have used a 48-52 Ford pickup tank in several Model A Tudor Sedans. The last one I got from Speedway. They fit like Henry built it that way. The filler is high enough to prevent slosh. I build a buldhead with a vent for the area around the tank. Been doing it this way since 1961, but then again, I have never been rear ended.

Two 6 volt Optima batteries in series are under the arm rests and a power rear window provides nice flow through ventilation on hot days.

got any pics of your batteries? that sounds like a good ideal! I priced them and the two kind of close to buying one battery. Is your side windows power or the back winder?

  22. I too used the Ford pu tank in my Tudor. Turned it around and built a frame to hold . I did this because I wanted to put filler on other side . I have included some photos . Not finished yet . I may have room for 2 six volts under seat ? You can check out build tread to see what happens in future . Blue
