Event Coverage Another Stupid Trip

Looks like my transmission is dying on my 59 truck. TH400. Might need a place to store the truck or something if I can't fix it. I'm on my way to Illinois for drag week.

EDIT: I renamed this thread. Used to be something about looking for help in Alamagordo NM.

Anyways...I'm headed to Drag Week with my friend Dan. Started out in my 59 Chevy pickup, hauling my open trailer with my Chevy II on it. Got to Alamagordo NM and the transmission in the truck downshifted, and wanted to only work in 2nd. pulled over, looked at a few things that control the shifting, didn't find anything there...but the fluid was not too good looking. Drove towards Tularoosa just a little ways and it gave out completely. Called a towing company to get the truck and trailer and store them till I get back. Meantime, we are heading to Cordova IL in the Chevy II.

 

I take it that means you are going to drop the truck and trailer and continue on with the race car to Illinois??? You sir are a Giant if that is the case.

I am in Chicago so I can't help you right now.

 

That is currently the best looking plan. The truck will not move right now.

 

Jim, You are in NEW MEXICO. I am in Payson if you need to get it here, I have a place for your truck. Sorry bud. I wish you were closer.

Sorry your tow rig let you down, but driving the race car halfway across the country is pretty bad ass.

I'd bet that Jim finds a replacement trans somewhere along the line, hauls it back to where the truck is, stuffs it in and loads up and heads home. Or finds some with a shop where he can rebuild it and head home.

 

Or some nice guy will fix it while hes gone.

Curious why you would be in Alamagordo. that seems out of the way going to anywhere!

doesnt the race car have a th400? surprised you didnt swap trannys for the haul and then swap em back at the track, complete drag week, and do it again for the trip home.......LOL.......
