Hot Rods Would you prefer a steel 31 coupe or a glass 32 five window?

Plenty of 31's....o k.....where. u mean the rats on fleabay and others that are worth $8-10k but they are asking $16-20+k....most of the time for something u wud have to put another 10k in, minimum....just sayin

I run across buildable 30/31 coupe bodies in the $2500 to $5000 range pretty often and have bought several and saved for future builds. I've also recently picked up a fairly complete running 31 roadster for $2500 and another nice 31 roadster body for $1850. They're out there.

Not planning on buying either, so it would have to be free for me to afford one.

 

Model A. Made the mistake once of building a Downs Fiberglass 32 Vicky which was a POS.

 

I will take the model A. Old Glass gets polymites. Ha Ha.

Steel model A, but I also think the body style of the '30-'31 looks better than the '32.

 

Glass or not, model A's are just better looking imo. Let the bashing begin.

 

I'd take the steel model A.
Then again I'd take a glass 30/31 over a glass 32 as well

I prefer steel , but it would depend on the quality of the 32. some are good. Some are a nightmare.

 

Personally, I'd take the steel '30-31 Model A over any '32 5 window, glass or steel.

 

I like Model As more than '32s, but my choice would depend on what I was planning to do. Genuine steel bodies aren't a renewable resource; 'glass ones could be. If I were planning a lot of hacking-about I'd go for the 'glass, though it's a complete different set of techniques.

 

32 any day why because of looks

 

Most of us that are looking aren't finding running Roadsters for $2500. You're pretty good at finding deals. Where should we be looking?

A friend has a fiberglass '32 3W body. I remember doing the run your hand over the entire thing, before he started. It was wavy. He worked on it filling and sanding, aligning doors and trunk lid. Took awhile, but when done, the fit and finish was excellent. And he was a novice body guy.
It was me, I dunno. I guess a steel '32, because I like sheet metal work and has the Hot Rod traditional sense of a noisy engine reverberating inside the interior.

I have helped build several glass 32's and from different company's and there were a lot of prep to be done but the Westcott 32 3 window and roadster were sanded and painted BLACK,absolutely no waves in the Westcott's we built.

The are a lot more expensive for a reason,quality! HRP

 

The question is:
1. Do you want to build a chubby looking hot rod.....the "king of the hill" 32?
or
2. Do you want to build a slim looking cousin of the 32.....the "lowly" Model A?

 

Easy choice.. Model A...

 

I watch Craigslist and Fordbarn and HAMB classifieds like everybody else and jump on something that sounds like a fair deal. I also drive my model A or sometimes haul around a 31 coupe body in my pickup and you would surprised how many people approach you at gas stations and tell you about where they know an old car is that can be bought.

model A .I drive old cars because they are old, a new body steel or glass just doesn't seem the same.

 

If I could get a glass 32 at a good price I'd flip it and get another steel A. That's about the only way I'd have a glass 32 before an A.

 

Steel Model A. Looks like about 95% of the responses are in agreement, but being this is a traditional hot rod site would you expect anything else?

 

I would take the Model-A , but only because I like them better.
I've owned both glass and steel cars before and both can be just as much fun.
I wish there was someone making a glass one besides Wescott.....there's is great, but out of my budget
