  15. Here's a 40 coupe I picked up about a month ago from a friend that built it but hardly ever drove it.
It's an excellent driver. Might be a bit too street roddy (Air, heat, mustang II, etc.) for this site but it's very understated and looks pretty traditional.

I would have a hard time believing there's not one person who has responded to this thread that wouldn't take that car in a heartbeat.
Enjoy your new ride. Beautiful 40.

as I go through these old pics of hot rods from yesteryear, sometimes one piques my interest and I think of a back story about the photo in my imagination.
Young man in Socal, buys a '40 tudor from the back of a used car lot. He doesn't care if it runs poorly, he'll put a hot four carb mill in it. Take the running boards off, lower it, skirts, and remove the roof. Can't afford a Carson top so a tonneau cover over the back seat will suffice, emblazoned with his club colors. The way it was in the 50s, could have showed up in one of those little books we read again and again until they were well worn.

This picture links, properly so, the Greatest Generation and hot rods. These young men who went into harm's way in WW2 loved hot rods and the '40 Fords were prime candidates when the war ended. Just used cars nothing special until they were dressed as this one is, skirts, whitewalls, chrome rims. I still remember my high school English teacher, Howard Kelly, who was a crewman on a bomber in WW2. To me, in the late 50s, he was a guy in a sport coat who taught us literature but one day he brought in some pics of his hot rod from 1947. Mr. Kelly, a hot rod? Not too many of those guys left, God Bless them all.

DMC is Deadman's Curve Car Club. That yellow '39 convert was one of my favorites there.
