After a three year endeavor "The Race Of Gentlemen" documentary has hit the film festival circuit. So far it's gotten into seven festivals and I assume there will be a few more by years end. I've also finished and designed a complimentary coffee table book titled "The Race Of Gentlemen Portfolio" All I need now is to find a publisher.

If any one is interested the next three festivals are :

The Toronto Beaches Film Festival in Toronto, Canada. It's showing on Sept 9th at the Beach United Church Community Complex.

The Golden Door International Film Festival
October 6th at 6PM - JCTC 339 Newark Ave, Jersey City, NJ.

    Chesapeake Film Festival
    Easton, Maryland
    October 27th

Give us a warning when you come to the West Coast,, GNRS might be a good venue especially as the Bones will have a building there.
As for book publisher,,, these days its a trip to China and self publish,, ask: The Bones, Peter Vincent, and others about the fun......

Hah.... you're last two words explains it all. I'm a novice at book publishing and looking to find out as much as I can. That said it's going to take a angel investor or sugar momma to help me out.

Why not ask Mel to finance you? I assume you have to give him some $$$$ for the rights to the event anyway. No?

Doing a 'documentary' at a 'public' event is 'news', so he is good to go.
Only if any of the images were to be used for commercial usage (ad print in magazines or on line) would releases be necessary.

  11. I'm thinking that if any profit is made off the documentary or book you would need releases. I'm not knocking it by any means. I would like to see it.

Do newspapers or TV news networks pay once they use and air material? No, unless they are a news ''show".
I am a journalist, not a art photographer, I record moments in real time as does madfish.
Legally he is in the clear.
Do I pay the racers at Bonneville? No, some have offered to pay to have their vehicle in the calendar but that is not how I roll.

  17. No argument here. Do as you like. I personally would have release and consent forms filled out before production or publishing. Might save you a big head ache down the road if it generates enough income to get every one in it to want a slice of the pie. This would include back ground music and the like. I'm sure he has done that so I'm out. Sorry for the distraction madfish.

I had everyone I interviewed on camera to give me permission to use their image while they were on camera. So it's all recorded. All background footage was as mentioned "news" coverage of the event. All photos for the book were pulled from the same video footage. The book is basically set up as documentary of the event.

And I kept Bobby and Mel in the loop. Seriously, I wouldn't have been able to do this if it weren't for their permission and help.

    Hola Pete,

Right now the film is entered in the Cape Cod Film Festival and the New Hampshire Film Festival. It will be a while
before I know if they get in or not. I'll definitely let you know as soon as I know. Thanks for participating.

Jeez.... the guy starts a thread about a documentary and immediately gets hit with a sock full of pennies.

Who's business is it anyways how he set up the legalities regarding his film,,,,come on people.

  27. There's been a TROG exhibit at the Harley Museum in Milwaukee for the past couple months. Saw it last week, it was small but good with video excerpts.
