WOW!! My wife grew up in Collierville (TN) with Jerry Smith. He married her best friend, Patsy.
Unfortunately, Jerry was killed in Vietnam. His daddy built the stone wall around Graceland for Elvis. The Gossett's had a junk yard south of Collierville. Small world.

Usually, the girl would end up burning the inside of her right leg right above the ankle on the straight pipes. I guess it didn't show up on them at the Sunday choir practice. You, on the other hand, had more problems.

Temple-Academy Dragway, Little River, Texas...still in operation. Made my first drag strip pass there in 1967 in my brother's '62 Impala.

Construction of Crosley Tower at the University of Cincinnati. I was a student there when this photo was taken. Named after Powell Crosley, local industrialist, owner of the Cincinnati Reds, WLW radio and of course produced Crosley cars.

Borsch Roadster at rest, hanging out with friends…at the
    Lions Dragstrip Museum June, 2017.

    Hello,

Willie Borsch always put on a great show. It was actually scary being in the stands as he took off. Everyone was hoping he would go straight, but one never knew. There was so much power in such a lightweight roadster…very impressive driving and race car.

Up close and quiet, it was still impressive... But, it loses a little of the pzazz...

We run my daughter's junior dragster here at Temple-Academy Dragway occasionally and will be there running a big race weekend after next. The strip still looks basically the same. It is the old roadway of the relocated highway that you see in the right rear of this photo. They still only have ARMCO railings and my friend parks his RV and trailer lengthwise along the railing almost exactly where the people are sitting on the cars in the bottom right foreground. When cars make a pass they are whizzing by about 8 feet behind you when you sit on the couch of the RV. Kinda' iffy...

You know... about two and half years ago I found Bobby Langley's last version of The Scorpion for sale for $4K on Craigslist. It was here in North Texas. I was tempted to buy it and restore it as a cackle car with Don's help. In truth, I never liked how the last Scorpion cars looked with the shark fin. The body had been modified and the shark fin was gone. Not only only did I not like how the car originally looked, but I didn't want to take on a project that I couldn't complete properly. The car was sold to someone in the midwest, I believe.
