A number of years ago, I remember reading a post where a guy converted his HF engine hoist to be able to go across the yard. I'm trying to find the link if anyone remembers it.
Can't roll it with an engine on it but I fold the legs on mine and haul it around the yard on the hand truck. I've seen a couple of setups at swap meets where the rigged a piece to go in the receiver hitch that had a hub and spindle setup fastened to it with a cherry picker minus leggs hooked to that so they could lift heavy things out of the truck an swing them around. One of them was too shaky to believe and the other looked like it would handle 5/600 lbs ok.
I saw that one when I did a search. The one I saw had larger pneumatic tires on it. It was maybe 5 or six years ago. Treb11 Hadn't thought of that. That might work for a couple of applications i have but I live out in the country and I don't want to be moving a whole lot of plywood when I work on projects.
Im with Treb....in a pinch were i needed to pull and engine or trans out in nature, a couple of 3/4 plywood sheets will do
I probably wouldn't trust it any further than I could throw it. If the wheels sink it's going to suck, if one sinks it's going over
tripod and a chain hoist? Have seen used many times and stacks away nice and neat when not in use. Here is another type that grabbed off the internet. I was searching for something similar, that they use at pick and pull with the temporary spare car tires for casters.
Scotts52, your in Washington, you must know some one with one of these. They work well for pulling engines (and anything else really) in remote sites.
here is one I whipped up, using and old boat trailer axle and a useless on dirt harbor freight engine hoist.
I use the Hiab on my F700, but if something needs to move a little further, the Bobcat works with a heavy duty come along secured to an 8ft 4x10 on end, secured in the bucket.
Steal the neighbor kids swing set. They are in the house playing video games and don't use it anymore.

I am guessing that what you are referring to, is a home made version of the link you posted. I have a plan to make an adapter so that I can use my hoist this way. I can't tell you how many times loading my pickup with something heavy has been a problem. I would want to be able to easily break it down so it would travel to and from the remote site in the truck bed.
Sorry, disregard. I found one that is only an hour away. When I did the first search, I got a location that was 400 miles away.

Having a bit of trouble wrapping my head around that hoist. It's like an Escher drawing. How do you lift an engine with no support under the weight
