  8. Northland, New Zealand, 1963. The area known as Chases Gorge at Bayly's beach near Dargaville. A popular past time, collecting shellfish, in this case Toheroa, a local delicacy. As you can see in that era it was very popular and due to overharvesting in those days there is now a ban on its collection.
The cars give a good idea of the very mixed fleet in New Zealand. Still plenty of pre WW2 Americans but because of preferential tariffs in the 1950s there is a predominance of newer British cars. 1963 Chases Gorge Baylys beach nr Dargaville Toheroa search.jpg

  9. This was shot in Rotorua, New Zealand, probably around 1980, just after the conversion had been completed. The car is a Canadian sourced, New Zealand assembled Impala sedan - the only variant available here that year. It is still on the road. Edit on this - it was built in 1987. Apparently about to be rebuilt.

  11. This one was shot in the 1970s but could have been earlier as the ex military GMC had seen many years of service. At a coal mine in the appropriately named town of Coalgate. Note the dual front wheels. Several hundred of these GMC were sold here in NZ after WW2.

Looks like an interesting conversion to me since I did the same thing to my 56 Chevy. I just wish someone had images of the back of the car especially the rear window area.
