At around the same time, a Volvo dealer near me had a 289 Cobra for sale for $3900....sure, it was a ratty-looking former racer, but maaann...I coulda bought it, but was still living with my parents, had nowhere to put it, nor the money to restore it. The salesman said with a smirk 'It'll be gone within the week'I'm sure it was. And yep, there are bootprints on my petootie from kicking myself ever since

Can't say for sure but it sure does looks like it. Don't know the drivers but the #7 car sure looks like the Johnny Vance machine.

This is what happens when you let the owner of the dealership borrow a race car. Pete Reynolds took the car over to Hooker Headers in Pomona to negotiate a distributorship from them. On the way back, it had unexpectedly begun to rain and the GS still had its racing slicks on (and 4:44 gears). It rolled onto its roof as Pete attempted to exit I-10 at Holt Avenue. Except for damage to his shoulder and his pride, Pete took the impact remarkably well. The Gran Sport was less fortunate, and a replacement car had to be located.

They located a car in two days from another dealer. The engine was transplanted from the #1 car into the new #2 car, which was hurriedly prepared for racing. With Jim Bell's tuning mods, the car ran 12.30 at 111 mph in NHRA stock trim. This car enjoyed a long career with many wins and helped establish the reputation of the Gran Sport as a muscle car to be reckoned with.

In the Fifties, a Dutchman called Maus Gatsonides, took a Mercury chassis and stiffened it and a Mercury engine which he gave more power. He designed a swoopy body and fitted it.
He called the car Kwik, that is Dutch for the element Mercury.
And he raced the car hard! At Zandvoort (the Dutch GP-circuit) and rallies. With success!

Develloping his cars (he made more) and racing cost him a lot of money. No problem, he earned enough designing, producing and selling radar speedtraps.
