This is the place Silver Streak hit the wall in the finals -

Check the tire launch marks going towards the wall - this was the next morning.

Tony's my hero. Not many guys would have the bottom end apart on race morning at the track. You are the man! [IMG]

I'm still of the opinion that Carillo owes you a set of pistons that will work or your money back on those so you can buy some that are built correctly for your application.
Even with a 3/16" oil ring on those pistons, the fact that you only have 2 oil holes in the bottom of the groove per piston negates the ability to get that oil that the 3/16" ring has scraped off the cylinder wall out the back side of the ring groove and returned to the crancase.
And to further fuck things up the underside of the piston as shown in a previous photo is forged in a configuration that doesn't allow any more holes. Carillo FUCKED UP!!!!!!!:mad:

  7. At this point I don't want anymore dealings with those guys. I've learned about enough to fix it myself. It was a vacuum sump design piston and I'm making band-aides to get it to work in a non vacuum application - almost there. The skirt is so short its probably rocking and every hone we do is making it worse. There is a coating company that can spray the piston skirt to bring it back up to size. Probably do that when they get 1/16" rings. Also I only had 20W/50W oil at the race. Last year it ran on 10W-40W. It might work on 0W-5W like it was designed for.

Is "1/16" a typo, for 3/16"? What's the width now?. Is the 0W-5 a racing oil? I stock 0W-20 and 0W-30 in Amsoil, but it's a premium synthetic, not a racing oil. Have a couple customers with OT late model Nissans that use the 0W-20 and used the 0W-30 in that OT Mkviii used to have, and also in a customer's OT Caddy with Northstar. Both are hi po DOHC 32V engines.

No on the Big Block Chevy we will get the Old Hemi right it takes someone special to have a old Hemi anyone can make a BBC run.

  10. That's 1/16" on the top 2 rings. The oil ring is 3mm and there's no room to make it bigger. The next set of pistons will come with big power robbing ancient rings - but we won't be playing the tear down every race game.

DOM, not to hijack Tonys thread but I just filled my motor up with ZRod 20w-50 and noticed some lower oil pressure readings at the big end of the track when she got hotter. Is this normal? It usually runs around 60lbs at idle, by the time I was done my runs it was down around 20lbs when I was returning. Any thoughts?

Wholesale changes for the H-BOMB before next race! I drive too far to race in a class that the fastest car qualifies at least 1/2 sec faster than 90% of the field in said class!!

Send me a Pm and when I can, I'll call the tech line @ Amsoil. Need engine type and clearances and pump info, also previous oil brand, type, weight, etc. Any thing you can think of. Most of tomorrow is either at Drs. or going to and from so will be a day or two later before I can call.

  16. I saw this quote -
    • No mistakes leads to no experience, and no experience leads to no wisdom.

My SBC 383 engine in the sedan delivery does that. Its running 20/50 ZR1 and it will get down to 20psi after it warms up.

That quote has so much truth it's wrong. You don't learn from doing everything perfectly or having everything end up just exactly as it should be you always remember your mistakes or problems and learn from them this engine has given you nothing but problems but the knowledge you learn from it will make the next one way easier

Tony's car sounded awesome Sat night, couldn't believe it was still smoking. Got to meet him and his wife, "Crew Chief", really nice people. I think him and Quain were the busiest 2 there. Zak"s dad told me he tried setting in that car and decided he was going with the 55. Hope everything works out Tony, you're a trooper.

  20. He can park down by the red car!

  21. That C/G car runs faster than several A/G cars - just put him in A/G

Thanks Mike! I enjoyed talking to you - we have fun no matter - main thing is don't hurt anyone, don't hurt yourself, don't hurt the car. :D

Gabriel would be mad because he wouldn't have a broke car to work on. He asked me if I've ever showed up to the track with a running car  had to think about that. I push my car onto the trailer so him and Jimmy can get it running at the track

that's some really good press for the Southeast Gassers, Freiburger has a tremendous online following due to Roadkill and the Engine Masters stuff. Expect the attendance records to continue to be shattered. Also, the comments on Freiburgers post on FB are positive towards the SEGA, folks know the difference and are excited to watch a real gasser race.

  24. Yeah I don't think its free - its free for 30 days or something if you create an account.

If you're on dial up I apologize in advance. Caleb Sewell and Kimberly Peck-Aden posted up pics on Facebook and I know some folks can't see them so brace yourself
