did anyone ever get anything from this guy yet? I mean like what is the earliest that we knew of this cause I just spoke with him on Sunday. Shipping to east coast by bus I wouldn't know if it's fake until next week.

The crazy part is if he is ever caught, these crimes are felonies and are considered grand larceny.

But he will literally have to turn himself in and confess to the crime before the police would ever give a rats ass about what he's doing.

when you want to warn people about a crook, you can't even be sure you aren't badmouthing someone whose name he "borrowed" for this one deal.
For about 4 yrs, several years ago, I was receiving collection calls and lawyer calls looking for an Amanda xxxxxxx.
I just let it go to the answering machine and never spent a moment on it.
I eventually found out later that it was someone passing bad checks, and they grabbed a random phone num to write on the checks. just happened to match my number.
Another time in the 1990s someone used my address to get a discover card that they ran up, then skipped. The funny part is that I never got any of the fakesters bills. (could he have a used a different billing address? but borrowed mine for .... ???) was I a made up co-signer?
both eventually went away, but it showed me how easy it was for someone to do that to a stranger, then skip.
no telling whose name they could use so you publicly advertise, and then chase after a fake name too.

why be ordinary?

 

I sold a property and the county grabbed the money from escrow. Turns out that there are two other guys named Rich Fox in San Mateo. And they are both behind on child support. IRS jumped on me for not claiming interest payments. Turned out to be my mother was using my SS number. She didn't have one so she used mine.

Some scumbag decides not to send what I've bought, I have a mailing address, and the email correspondence to back up my claim to the post office. Best part is, it's a felony charge of mail fraud.

Wow what an ass hole. The guy already feels bad enough and is kind enough to post up (even though its embarassing) to seek help an warn others. And you kick him in the ass.

 

I advertised here for a 1940 Chev frame.. Got some bozos tell me they had one and could do a deal ...I knew they were fake wouldn't send photos etc... They are every where..

 

Unfortunately, if you go to any prison and find out what everyone in there is charged with, you most likely wont find a single person convicted of mail fraud. You'd probably have to swindle people out of millions before law enforcement got involved. Sad, and I feel for those of you taken by this guy, but life is full of tough lessons.

 

I got scammed too.Guy had a 32 ford 3 window original car .running and driving.For only $700.00 He was in Nigeria on business and car was in Texas.never got car. Lol didn't happen but I've heard similar stories.Sounds too good to be true ,it probaly is

^ Odds are its a fake (borrowed) name. We already know one of the phone #'s was fake. These types of people are bastards but rarely stupid. I do hope you catch him/her/it.

 

Don't feel like the Lone Ranger, I had some guy do the same to me, he was from Boston area and answered a post from me looking for Glasspar G2 roadster parts. He know all about the cars and claimed that he had one he was parting out, leaving in a few days for work out of the area, can't wait, hurry up and send the money. $1200.00 later and same scenario, wouldn't answer the phone, no parts, nothing. Boston accent, misspelled words, a real snake.

 

Hopefully someday this crook will set up the wrong guy, and receive free dentistry via vise-grips.

I always thought this to be true, but when I asked my Post Master they said no and you have to contact the local prosecutor from the town the person lives in.

It could be that my PM didn't know what he was talking about or was just too lazy to deal with my claim of $100, but that's what he told me.

^^^^ what is the difference? either way you are dealing with stolen or fake money orders. I bet he would have got the same thing if he bought something from a person with one.

I hate theives & anything related. A guy I grew up with turned out to be one of those shiftless types. You know, always has a scam. I always kept him at a distance. There was a large long good ol' junk yard here, this was in late '80's. It had about 70 acres of goodness (now mostly gone) from the '30's up, rows of stuff. I'd been going there since for ever. I noticed that 'Skeets' had gotten a yard crawler job there, but I never spoke to him. I went back a month or so later and they wouldn't let me go back with my tool 'wagon' They even offered to escort me off their property. I asked why?? They found out Skeets had a scam of taking orders for car parts & he would drop them over the back fence by the rail road tracks. He told the yard owners when he got caught a few days before that I was in on it and even used my truck to drop motors into. Gotta watch 'em all now, eh?

......and when they do get involved, they don't deliver an equitable or even significant (IMO) punishment for crimes against people. Nope, the real punishment is reserved for those who try to screw the system (corporations, banks, government) and if you screw the people out of enough money, they will make you an honorary member of the system. "Come in here dear boy have a cigar..........."

 

I had a similar phishing attempt. Guy responded to my wanted ad for 34 Ford Fenders saying to send money via WalMart. So I asked him to send pictures. He sends me pictures of inner fenders and I tell him that's not what I want. So he says he will have his friend contact me. The "Friend" sends pictures of fiberglass fenders, so I tell him that not what I want, that I'm looking for steel fenders. So he sends a couple of pictures of steel fenders. So I do a Google Search and find the same pictures he found on Google Images and I tell him to politely piss off.

Then a week later, a whole different email address emails me with a set of Fenders, and I remember the image from when I checked Google Images the last time. His name on the email was Martin Greathouse and he listed a Kansas Address. I have a friend that lives in Kansas and he even agreed to let my buddy stop by to look the fenders over before finalizing the deal. Turns out, this guy copied and pasted a sale ad from 2015 but didn't convert the asking price of the original ad from British pounds to American Dollars, so he was asking $300 shipped for a set of 34 Fenders...yeah right!. I asked him to print a copy of our conservation before finalizing the "deal" and put it on the fenders and take an updated photo. He replied back with all sorts of reasons why that was an unreasonable request, so I emailed him the link to the 2015 ad that he stole the text and pictures from and he stopped emailing me.

So, now, if I'm buying a more expensive item, They are going to have to print a copy of our PM conservation and take a picture of it on the part before I send them money.

 

Last week I had a guy call me, supposedly from California, responding to my wanted ad on HAMB for a set of 33 Dodge front fenders. He seemed to know quite a bit about them but some warning signs went up in my mind. I ask him to send me pictures of the fenders. Said he would have his friend do it that afternoon. I told him to call me back after the pictures were sent and, since I would be out of the shop, to leave his phone number and address. When I ask his name all he would give me was TJ. Never received the pictures or a follow up on his part. Sounds like the same guy that was ID-ed in the first posting on this thread. He must be trolling the wanted list.

 

I was contacted by I believe the same guy . He called me out of the blue and indicated that his father in law had passed and his wife inherated the house. They were cleaning up the place because the house was sold . His in law had a 34 sedan which they had sold and there were some like new used front fenders that they needed to get sold ASAP. I asked how he got my name and number , his response was that a guy passed my contact number on to him. I thought that it was strange beings that I do have a home in Reno but live in Alaska. I told him that I wanted them and would take them site un seen. Well this guy indicated that he and his wife were leaving the next day in a u haul truck headed back to California and was not waiting around. I have a friend who lives there and called him and asked if he could run over and buy these fenders for me. My friend was out of town that day but could stop by the next day and give him cash. The seller indicated that he was dealing with another guy in Texas and was probably going to sell them to him at a discounted price and leave in the morning. I was in a overwelmed panic but missed out on loosing some $$$$$$$. I guess someone was watching over me that day.
I am sorry to hear that this clam took your money. Would like to meet him face to face. I am a doer and would break his nose.

 

I like wasting scammers time (and hopefully money). If a heap of people on here post "Wanted"ads for "Head for a 44 Henway", or "Radiator for '72 Beetle", then only these turkeys will respond. Then string them along with "I've sent the money, It should be there by now", or ask them where they are, and all of a sudden you have a buddy "in the next town, I'll send him the money and he can pay for them and pick them up". You have to bullshit as much as they do, but as soon as they smell money, they are hooked, and will only let go after they are caught out or you have wasted enough of their time. You can play some of them like a fiddle if you do it right. (A bogus email account is good for this fun)
