I think listing that car on Ebay is more about getting the word out that it is for sale. I bet it will sell for pretty close to the 98K number.

  5. Yup Jeff, even 15 years ago when I was at the other shop you would have spent close to that to build a similar car.

I'd have 5 times as much fun in 5 different $20,000 cars!

Yes- it will be an old fake, not a new one. A leopard doesn't change its spots.

Sounds like you weren't too impressed with the car itself.

My 34 5 window is a welded together jalopy that I built myself with all used parts all pre 48 parts with no exotic stuff and I have about 20 into that including registration. Having a shop build you a 32 from all clean parts for 100 grand seems like it would be difficult at best.

And if it could talk, think about the stories it would have! Some of this aftermarket stuff is to formulated; it gets to where they like it , test the market, and start the assembly line. Not taking away from the talent involved, but after a while the thrill is gone. Good for some; not a poor boy like me.

Besides, I'd miss going to the junkyard in June and getting stung by hornets, or in February wading through 3 feet of snow and dragging parts a quarter of a mile to your truck. (Then the guy that owns the place goes on a computer and tells you it's worth 4 X what you thought, and if you don't want it, put it back ( happened in Maine). The thrill of the hunt is as good as the actual build. It requires commitment, not just a fat wallet. I almost forgot poison ivy , ticks, and mosquitoes!!

This thread is full of typical uninteresting Internet negative commentary, and except for a couple of posts with useful information, it is taking the H.A.M.B. in the wrong direction. For me anyway.

  15. I have seen several of the Rolling Bones cars up close ,in person. These cars are not every ones cup of tea, and are not intended to be, raw bare bones hot rods. I LOVE their stuff, and have seen them drive the hell out of them with no issues. A car and or Hot Rod is only worth what some one is willing to pay for it! ;):)

You like George Barris style show rods, I guess.....I don't especially and never really did. They are interesting to look at, but just not what I would like to own. I personally like Rolling Bones Hot Rods....."rolling art".....and they drive the wheels off them! In fact I think Ken and Kieth and John Swander are top of the heap hot rod builders and hot rod junkies. I'll bet you don't really care what I like and don't like. I just get annoyed when a thread gets side tracked with a bunch of uninteresting negative personal opinion BS. You don't have to read this if you don't want to.

  18. Look at my profile and older posts and you will find I like all styles of any car that is considered traditional.
Ken, Keith, and John truly are hot rod junkies and they drive their cars more than 90% of the membership on the HAMB.
To say that the craftsmanship and quality of the car for sale on EBay is worthy of a price tag of $98,500.00 is simply ludscrious. It's nothing more than a "go to hell hot rod", which is cool. But the sum of the parts and labor put it somewhere south of about $32,000.00 in today's market. That's all I'm saying

Can't help but wonder if this a pre-marketing ploy and the car goes to B-J in January.

I've known this car from it's beginning. John has done many upgrades to make this car easier to drive and more reliable. It's made several trips to the west coast and can be seen at many hot rod shows within driving distance of KC. If I was looking to own a bones car this is the one.

Best thing about this thread is learning that there is a name for a certain type of car...... a "go to hell hot rod".
Like porn... hard to define, but damn obvious when you see it.
I need a "go to hell hot rod"...
    A "go to hell house",
and maybe a "go to hell girlfriend"... oh wait, I already have that one.

    Please forgive me but,
I have heard the term "rolling bones style" mentioned on several threads. I realize they have a shop etc. by Googling it, but what does the term actually mean? I get the impression it means using vintage (50+years old) components.

You are way way off here, this ain't the 80's, I would love to have you build me this exact same car for that price. While your at it I'll take 3 of them.

Well, you have a picture of one in the link in the OP, that's a good start. The term means a hot rod built in the style that the Rolling Bones hot rod shop specializes in. More generally, a fenderless hot rod with a hard chop, lakes style, with a hood and side panels. Well made chassis with top shelf components, QC rear, cowl steering are common. Lot's of louvers. Non-shiny paint. Steelies, sometimes with hub caps. Unfinished interior with minimal creature comforts. Should look like it's just back from Bonneville.

  28. I can break even at 32,500. Not make money.
I dont like any of you guys that well to build you a car.
Sorry guys, but savvy shopping puts the body parts at 15,000. That leaves 17,000 for a chassis, greasey motor and undercarraige, no interior, amateur wiring, window glass and labor. No chrome and no detail.

Not my fault if you are not capable of adding in a little bit of know how and throw together a unfinished belly button 32 5 window. Its not rocket science guys.
