John, that Olds looks way better!

 

Thanks for the kind words guys. Like I said the Olds is going to need a little love, in fact the crank is out getting turned right now. Other than a suspicious rod journal everything else looked pretty good. As soon as I get that back I'll order bearings, rings and gaskets and start reassembling.

I spent tonight working on the steering box. I had my wife (who is my go to welding expert) try to tig the flange onto the box but the only filler rod they had at her work kept cracking when it cooled so I preheated the assembly and gave it a couple passes with the mig welder. Not as pretty as the work she does but functional.

I replaced the bushings and now I need to borrow a reamer to cut them.

I took an evening welding class at the local high school a few years back. The instructor said there had been several girls/women through the class, and they always turned out to be the best welders.

 

New bushings reamed and honed. Replaced all the bearings, seals and gaskets. Reinstalled. Looking good now.

Sorry for the lack of updates. I've been busy on the car but the HAMB app on my phone is dead and I have to relearn everything I thought I knew about posting pictures. Let's just say this happened. THANKS to @cball and @onekoolkat1950 for the work they did on the car. Circumcision complete.

Yeah, on mobile. But I can see the most recent (3/4 rear view) pic.

 

Olds motor is all freshened up. Bored 1/8 over with 371 pistons, Isky cam, Weiand two four intake, high pressure springs, all new bearings, high pressure pump, custom headers, starter changeover, Hurst motor mounts and and Hildebrandt oil filter relocator.

 

I'm not afraid to know when I'm out of my comfort zone and having had the experience of ruining a 53 Chevy once while chopping the roof I decided to outsource this task to the guys at Millworks Hot Rod Shop in Tewksbury Mass. They did an amazing job. Thanks to @cball and @onekoolkat1950 for the work they did.

 

Big progress, car looks good man. Where did you go for machine work on the engine?

 

The motor was someone else's abandoned project so a lot of machine work had already been done, but I had Simplex in RI polish the crank and do a few other minor things.
