The car is a testament to good engineering, bullet-proof parts selection and a simple formula that works. No frills, less to break or otherwise let you down. I think the transmission selection is a key element to why the car works as well as it does.

I only have one trip planned for this car this year, that's Drag Week in Ohio in September.

 

I sent off some oil. I had changed it right before Drag Week last september, so it had the 6 runs from Drag Week, plus the drive, and a few trips to Tucson racing, I think another 7 runs. I guess it's ok.

no anti freeze in the engine, though.

 

^^^^^ Reads like my Dad's last ER visit. They sent him home because everything was within normal readings. He was just lean on the exhaust and rich on the intake and got backed up. They told him to gun it a few times until it ran clean again.

 

I like that you tested the oil. I don't know if that's a general common practice with HAMB members, but it's a good way to "look" inside the engine.

Huh... If I step out my front door and go about 6 blocks due south that puts me right about at Blackstone Labs front door. Probably about as close as our paths will come to crossing. We used to send an oil or coolant sample there occasionally from our shop.

 

So after they do your analysis do they send your oil sample back to you, or do they just dispose of it? I may have to do a little dumpster diving some day. Calcium, potassium, magnesium... It would be like having a bit of your Nova's DNA. Wonder what it might fetch on Ebay???

 

Oh, I have plenty of used oil to dispose of.

Jim, tell me a little bit about your carbs. I read through the whole thread and you never mentioned them .

 

Just a pair of stock Carter Competition 9755S AFB carbs, from the 1990s. got them on ebay a few years ago and bought new jets and metering rods to put them back to what they are supposed to be. work pretty good that way. Who would have thought.

Thanks. We have to run inline carbs in the SEGA and AFB's look cool and original . I ran 2 Pontiac afb's on a Ridgeway on my Modified production 57 Nomad. Decades ago.

 

It would be neat to run a pair of AFBs with the old small air cleaner base, but I'm too lazy...

 

Jim I have a question for you since you have " been there and done that". I am building a 62 Nova with a straight front axle for street-strip use. It will not be a AWB, don't want to radius the quarters, 10" slicks would be great and would like to stay period correct. The question is what would you do on the rear suspension? Thanks, Mike

 

I don't know. Mine is not really period correct, since my traction bars work like caltracs. I think most guys used long ladder bars, which are not really the best for street driving, although folks drive with them.
