After being cut from the police academy for his eyesight, Chuck became the toughest school crossing guard in the state.

Rootie, your photo looks to be an early one of the Ross Page car. I've always wondered just what the story was behind the unique, for the time, layout of the car.

Also, I've seen photos of the car being built at Kurtis (circa 1946) that show Ronnie Ward (Rodger's brother) doing part of the fabrication on the car. I don't know just when he started at Kurtis but the Page car might have been one of his first projects there. Ronnie seems to be one of the unsung heroes of race car construction in that era as at one point he was working for both Kurtis (days) and Watson (evenings) at the same time. Of course, he later went out on his own

I've kinda wondered if wasn't originally conceived pre-war as sort of a tube framed copy of the Joel Thorn late 30s car. When you come down to it, both were essentially built like the old 2-man cars with a centered drive line and offset driver but with a fuel tank where the riding mechanic would have been. Also the suspension was pretty antiquated whereas Kurtis's other post war cars were more modern with T-bars, ifs and such. Just a thought.

For the 10% that don't know it, this is the last 409 powered production Chevrolet.
Approximately 2800 cars were built with this engine, a 340 hp and a 400 hp version.

Yes it is a very sad story, to my knowledge it still has not had a happy ending.
