Just wanted to throw the question out: Has anyone else noticed lately, that there is a ton of off topic content being posted? With the mods being as busy as they are, sometimes it falls to individual members to give guys a little reminder here and there to color inside the lines,so to speak. I've also noticed that there has been a distinct trend of quantity over quality in some of the picture threads lately by some who seem to think that posting dozens of photos per day, with little to no relevant information about car, driver, location, date,or anything more detailed than the name on the door of the car. No more Centerline wheels please. And yes,I can see it's the BoB Smith 55 Chevy....It says so right on the door. I'd just like to ask the membership to please remind guys about the rules when they post off-topic content. You don't have to put them on blast, but please remind them,or it's just going to get worse. Has this been an issue for anyone else lately? It's been bothering me for a while. What do you guys feel about the subject? Thank you. Scott Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
please do not just look the other way if you do see content that does not belong on the forum please use the !REPORT! button at the bottom of the offending post. a moderator will review the content
this is why I scan before I open the threads , many threads I feel are out of place , but its not for me to criticize them its the mods and they do catch them , only when its really O/t Like a New Computer car motor in a old one and a subject that will fly over most of the peoples head ( computer controls ) I try to direct them to another site for the question before it gets canned ..
Do you think threads about boats, dogs, houses and airplanes belong on a traditional hotrod forum? The HAMB is the best traditional hotrod forum there is
"""I've also noticed that there has been a distinct trend of quantity over quality in some of the picture threads lately by some who seem to think that posting dozens of photos per day, with little to no relevant information about car, driver, location, date,or anything more detailed than the name on the door of the car.""" I've probably posted 10,000 photos here and never listed anything about the cars or owners. are you smoking crack?
I have my own standards and so do the other moderators, if you are asking me personally, no, dogs do not belong here period. Boats, houses and airplanes with significant historical value and pertaining to the time frame of this forum's intent and contained to specific threads can and should be tolerated.. edit: on the Hokey Ass Message Board (not one of the traditional forums), and within reason of course.
I just reported his thread because it contains no relevant information on building a period correct car. Not really. Apply to be a Mod, if theyre overloaded and you feel strongly about it, and want to monitor content, it may work out for everyone.
Like Paul said, please do not overlook off topic stuff, we moderators can't possibly look at every thread for offending material. Please use the report button. that is what it is for
I don't think it's any worse than usual. There's always been new members who don't read rules first, and post some off topic shit, I did it on my first or second post ever when I joined, and it was deleted, thankfully. I think for the amount of people here, this place dose very well. Look at the bullshit other social media sites have, this place is run much more smarter. I do agree on the centerline wheel thing, they are awful looking things, they ain't traditional, they are cheap nasty looking crap, and I wish I didn't have to keep seeing them, sometimes posted by members who should know better.
The moderators are doing a excellent job, they catch and delete may threads all the time. Just proves they are diligent. HRP
I have to respectfully disagree. In my opinion, the amount of off topic threads are microscopic compared to the total number of threads. Just my opinion of course, I didn't do a scientific test or anything, it just seems like off topic threads are pretty few and far between and get snuffed out fairly quickly. And, I think for every guy that says the HAMB is too lenient, there is another guy that says it is too hardline. If you remember the early years of the HAMB, you could hardly ask a serious hot rod question without someone calling you a HAIRBITCH (tm). Yes, it was fun in its own way, but the "Old HAMB" ain't got shit on the new. -Abone.
Me too......some threads get overlooked because they're interesting though, as in after the crash, a long thread about what amounts to a full blown drag car that certainly does not fit in the parameters (big word) of this site, but is informative (again, big word). We tolerate some threads because they're informative, such as several drag cars here, but I also see a lot of name calling by those who approve of later model non traditional stuff, calling down those of us who prefer the traditional, which in my mind is not necessary. I'd like to see the mods tighten up things.

Also,to be clear,I was in no way bashing the Mods;just the opposite.I was stating that in my opinion, they are overloaded with content to review, and could probably use a hand from the membership to steer them toward questionable content. Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
I agree that they do a great job HRP,I just think there are times we could make their life a little easier by pointing out stuff that got under their radar. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
So you DO get it after all. You've answered your own question, and all is right with the world. Yeesh!!!
The OP Scott said, "Has this been an issue for anyone else lately? It's been bothering me for a while. What do you guys feel about the subject?" My answer is no! A lot of HAMB'ers liken this site to a BS session for car guys (and gals) with the principle subject being tradition hot rods and customs. Like any bull session in your shop or at a show, the subject often strays in multiple directions. If you don't like the way the direction the subject is going, you're free to walk away. Same here. The thread on Southern California back in the day is up to 10 pages and while there are references to cars, there is a ton of interesting info that seems to be of interest to a lot of people here. Like a TV or radio with an off knob, you're free to tune out on those subjects that you find uninteresting.
Way off topic threads need to be deleted,Viagra threads, weight loss threads, rat rods and mustang threads will have me on the report button in a heart beat. Minor infractions don't bother me,heck,I'm guilty as charged and I had a thread deleted about a flat tire...I thought flat tires were traditional! The Happy Birthday HOTRODLADYCRUSER (Denise) is one such off topic threads that I am referring too,it's not hurting anyone & we get to wish a friend of everyone a happy birthday. Another OFF TOPIC thread that seems to have taken on a life of it's own is the DIE CAST WEEKLY, personally I am not interested in die cast but who am I to decide what fellow Hambers want to read or view,so I chose to skip over to the next thread. I have no desire to have the thankless job of moderator, these guys do a good job without me reporting everything that I consider off topic,I just read it and laugh or move on. HRP
Where does a guy draw the line on " traditional "? Does every part of a build have to be before the 1965 cut off for this site? Or maybe the build has to be traditional "inspired"? I just looked at a build thread that had IRS in a 30's car, is that less traditional than my my car with R&P pushing 1948 steering arms? Who's to say, not me.
