Love the pic of him and his wife with the car. U should print him a copy of it and definitely have him drive the car again when it's in the road. Congrats

I bought a 31 roadster last fall that has a lot of similar features including a 3" pipe frame. Could this have actually been common back in the day? I never expected to see another one.

Thanks! Good eye! Built in 1946. I have a wood shop upstairs.

Well, she's awesome that's how, ha! Once she saw my parts list and values of said parts she was on board. Plus...she's awesome!

Thanks Tim! Yup! On my best behavior, ha!

That's so cool!! I think it happened a lot more than we know? Maybe not always quite so successful? That roadster is kickass! Do you have a thread/info on it somewhere?? I'd love to see more!

No I don't, I'm just so jealous that it makes my Tommy hurt! You did SO good!

So fix broken, fresh rubber and run all day and all night?

Very cool find, if I see something neat or worthwhile on Craigslist, it is usually a pile of crap and overpriced.

Here's the thread for my roadster purchase and build. I bought it October 2016 and it's getting close to being done,

  11. Cool man. I'm a woodworker too, and also have an awesome wife who is encouraging. (life is good!)

The great thing about your new ride is that it transgresses all the arguments here about traditional hot rods, it defines it. Rock on.
Post a vid of your 1st ride so we can come along. Or maybe a walk and talk around ?

So here are the specifics. '50 Olds 303 he said out of a junk yard. Chromed (rough) '39 ford trans. TT '40 rear with the bells flipped so the spring is in front. Delco Lovejoy shocks on the rear chrome tube on the '32-'36 front axle. Looks like a '39 steering box set up cross steer.

When he first built the car it was white and the engine was red. I'm not sure yet when he changed it but it wasn't long after. He said he showed it at Starbird and Farner's shows. Unfortunately he got rid of his trophys a long time ago (drat!)

Somewhere he has a letter from Car Craft as it was suppose to be in it in '62 but it never transpired.

Again I don't have the timeline completed but it was originally built with the factory 4bbl manifold (which he gave me) and then he switched to the Edelbrock 3x2. Well, he never finished the switch over and family/life took precedence. This was in '64 or '65 I believe.

It sat at his parent's farm in Salina until I think about 1983. I'm not sure when they moved to Kansas City? Then the car got moved to a turkey barn out by where our speedway eventually got built. When all that property got sold is when it was moved to his son/daughter-in-law's place 17 years ago...

Wonderful find, absolutely unbelievable that you should find such a survivor in such great shape, and obviously well cared for all these years.
And to the nay sayers braying like jackasses about the alternator: Go piss up a rope, you're just jealous!

While the car isn't my personal style, it's a great story, and a cool and interesting piece of hot rod history. Congrats on the new acquisition.

Mike, I wouldn't be surprised if Tom Davison could muster a photo of the car from one of those shows. At the least, he might remember the car.

  25. Great find! As a guy lucky enough to find a time capsule like yours, I understand the joy of becoming the new owner and of getting it back on the road. I'd try to do everything you can to keep the car as original as possible - only upgrading things that make sense. On mine, the interior was really ugly (he just didn't have money to have it done professionally, so the wife did it . . . and it looked like it). So - I made the decision to update the interior and a few other things. The more original you keep it, the more you will like it . . . as you'll find it is like driving a rolling museum from a period long ago.

Can't wait until you fire it up!

Holy cow cactus1, I grew up in Salina! Courious to know the original owner, there are some old time locals still here that might remember the car and the owner. That would have been my fathers generation.

I say you get yours running and I'll talk Wayne into bringing his 50's built olds roadster to race you! IMG_7077.JPG I think he's run it a time or two
