Projects 1960 Chrysler New Yorker Rustoration

I do enjoy making my own replacement panels, but man when you can buy something already made it makes life easy.
Now I can start tying in the trunk floor to the rear trunk panel and quarters.

Thanks. Yeah I bought it. (classicparts4u). Same for the "trunk drops" or whatever they're called.

The pan I wish I made myself. But I'm not sending it back. The side trunk drops are close. They'll need some convincing.

Wedge is the word....

 

I've heard them called trunk drop offs or extensions. . Guess they go by different names in different parts of the country. Kinda like drywall, gypsum board, sheetrock. Hahaha

I have a 60 pioneer that needs the pan and drop offs.

 

you're a brave man, and you have awesum cardboard skills. I like those patterns you've made.

 

I would have already had to cut that haggled edge off that trunk lip, back to that crease anyway, weather I was going to replace it or not.

 

This one that tears my pants everytime I crawl into the trunk?

This perked my interest. Did you make a 3D drawing to get these printed?

 

No. The guy scanned the original and then edited the drawing. He's an engineer so he's good with cad. The final product is nice he added the radius on the chrome part.

So close an yet so far. I stripped all the paint of the rear and now you can really see how bad it is. I'm slowly straightening it out.
A lot of shrinking and beating down high spots.

Pulled the front end off and removed drivetrain.











Started and finished patching up the inner fenders today. Then started the drivers side fender.







I'm a novice tig welder.

Here's some cool old pictures I found.
In 2010 I bought a 72 dodge wrecker at an estate sale for $200. So we had this great idea to move the chrysler. So I stacked bricks between the axle and frame because the leafs were all broken then we drove it around the block.







And here's a pic from 2001.

First fender patch down. I'm loving the tig life.













A buddy of mine sold me two 9-1/4 police rears from 78 dodge st. Regis's.

One has a posi. The other had good backing plates. So I'll make one of 2.

Still plugging away at the fender. Every time I use the tig my welds improve. I'm grinding less tungsten for sure. My beads are also getting cleaner and more uniform.

What are you guys doing for layered panels such as this as far as coating? Does that weldable primer actually work? Maybe when it's done I can just soak it with some thinned down paint to really get in between?
I hate to do all this for nothing.

I've heard good things about the weld through primer but don't discount good old fashioned seam sealer and undercoating. You want to keep dirt and moisture out of there in whatever way you can. Getting a coating on the surfaces helps, but so does closing up the seams and gaps.

Nice work so far, you're really doing this car justice.

 

When I took my tig class the instructor said there's 3 things that make a good welder. Practice, practice, practice

Thank you. That's the Esab rebel emp215ci unfortunately I cannot tig weld aluminum. But if I was to upgrade to the 235 it would've been another thousand dollars. I just don't think I needed it that bad. I'm sure I'll be kicking myself in the ass over it though.
