He can't run the Hal motor because it is not a production motor. Cheys, Dodges, Plymouths, Stars, etc are all welcome!

I'm sure it was him, but I just talked to him for a minute. After leaving the swap meet I kicked myself for not spending more time and asking more questions. The truck was parked towards the back of the stall and I saw this "odd" looking head sticking up and then the name "Hal" and then I thought "Bruno" and grabbed my camera. Man, those ports are like funnels. He told me he had another one in his race car that he ran on alcohol?? He said he was asking $8,000 and it came with extra parts. I didn't want to waste his time because I knew before I asked I couldn't be a buyer. Seemed like a nice guy.

Is any of the Banger guys here planning on going to the Hotrod Dirt Drags in Colorado? This will be my first time to attend and I am getting excited!

  4. I think Eight Grand is a reasonable price for a full on HAL engine. The caveat is that there apparently so many iterations of the HAL's you really don't know what you have 'til your start digging into it. That's where you can start running up some big bills. Many say that a good HAL can run with the good Miller/Offy engines of the day.

Seth Hammond is definitely a very approachable and interesting fellow.

Steve like most old race engines the motor is busted junk. Car is Z's
    Ziller..jpg

The car is a wonderful collection of old real racing parts
    miller diff..jpg

It's probably the last race car I be able to restore giving my vision problems

When done we'll do some "Bug Stomping" so everything has to be pre-1932 so no "B-Blocks"allowed
That's the reason for not running full HAL.

You go up the hill. If you fast your fast..... if not, There is always a picnic lunch back at the bottom

As you know my wife is a fierce driver

Long ago Jerry Sherman had pieces of 1½ Hal 91 cubic inch engines. There were two cranks (identical) and two sets of rods.
One set were beautifully machined, The other "set" were two Ford 60 rods, side by side, on each crank throw. Either set would fit either crank, and the piston bosses were far enough apart to take either. He sold the whole pile about 1960--no carbs or mags. No idea about the one head, except that as I recall it had valves and springs in it.

    No idea where it went.

I think they migrated West. Saw them a couple times too new and way too small for my uses

I honestly have not been near a midget since my previous wife. @ 4'-8'' Z's well over a foot taller and a much better driver

You might notice that Z also knows which wheel to look over.......

This use of double V8-60 rods was also found on the SOHC Van Blerck marine engines used in pre-war and post war midgets.

Picked up another Weber 32/36 set up for my B engine with a CRAGAR. Bought the one on the left at least 10 years ago and finally got around to putting it on the Zipper last year. Ran so well, I decided to buy one for the B. Notice the difference....the old is on the left and the new one on the right. Needless to say there was a considerable price increase! IMG_0247.JPG
