Projects My 52-54 victoria build

Discussion in 'Traditional Customs' started by voodookustoms, Apr 3, 2015.

  1. I was able to work it back into place, grind the metal clean, bevel some edges and surprisingly get some pretty clean welds in there. It was a pain in the ass but now it's better than it was from the factory.

I've noticed the factory welds are less than stellar on many occasions. Glad to hear your back on the road.

I finally got around to installing my rebuilt hood hinges this weekend. Since my firewall was so best up from this poor cars previous life, I could not get the box to fit completely. I straightened all the flanges the best I could and finagled it into place as close to original as I could but had to use two sheet metal screws to hold the outside of the box to the firewall.

The passenger side went on a lot smoother. Next up I have to make a custom mounting bracket for the Blower motor due to my raised fenderwells.

  6. Nice job on your car, looks great. Gotta a couple questions regarding your hood hinges. Did you "rebuild" them and if so what did that entail. Was that done to correct the rear of the hood staying up, not sitting flush with fender when closing hood ?

  7. Not sure how you define large dose of Loctite. be careful too much and I does not cure.

  8. Hey Rick. I had a local machinist rebuild them. He specializes in hinges. He took them all apart, strengthened the pivot holes by adding thicker steel on the vent side, he fabricated the front arms out of thicker steel, reamed all the holes and made all new rivets/pivots for a tight fit. And he installed all new springs. If your interested, send me a dm and I'll get you his number. They are now much better than any remanufactured hinges you can buy.
And yes, it will fix the corners sticking up like you mentioned.

I got the bracket installed now. I'm pretty happy with it considering I made it with a 4" grinder, a die grinder and a drill press. Not happy with some of the welds, but it will do I suppose.

Do you mind sharing the contact info for your local hinge specialist?

Cool bracket man, engine bay looks great. Hey outta curiosity how much clearance do you have between the front inner fenders and the top of your tire? Im not quite as low as you are and i think i can get away without raising my inner fenders up

  16. Thanks greengrenade. I've got probably an inch or two. But I did come down quite a bit. And the big tires make a big difference too.
What are you doing to lower yours?

I did aerostars and 2 1/2 drop spindles with the disc kit from drop n stop em. Think i have 3 or so inches of clearance so i might just rock it without raising the inner fenders. I got posies 3" leafs out back with 4" blocks but i dont think the springs are 3" really. I think its around a 5/6 drop total

  20. Sorry not much of an update. My axle seals were leaking so I took that out and had it fixed. I haven't had any time to make more progress. But the hood will be going on soon, then I have to get the door hinges rebuilt.

  25. Hey guys. Sorry it's been a while.
I guess I've been mostly preoccupied with these two beauties. [IMG] Elizabella Renee and Scarlett Skye born April 10th.
While we were in the hospital with them, I had my bumpers stripped, straightened and had the bolt holes filled by V&C Metal polishing in north Hollywood. They did a great job.

    Chrome will come later.
I've been driving the car to work every day this week since I'm working a little closer to home now. [IMG]
I also got the hood installed a few weeks before the girls came. It still needs some adjustment, but at least it closes and locks now.

I took that pic last week when I got to cruise with my dad. He came out from Phoenix to pick up that 40. He's owned a lot of cars in his life, but never a 40 ford. It has always been on his list. It was good to cruise around with him again. His plans are to put wide whites and chrome reversed rims on it.
Mechanically, my car is pretty solid now. Runs and drives great. The windshield does need to be replaced, so after that, i will be able to focus on body work and modifications. I plan on doing a kustom grill treatment, molding the front fenders to the valence and body and rounding the hood corners. still deciding if ill be running any type of side trim.
