Art & Inspiration Went to a farmers backyard this morning

We got up a little earlier than normal today and went to the local diner for breakfast before going to the shop, we decided to drive the Ranch Wagon.

A couple of man were sitting at the window seat and commented about the wagon when we were seated close by.

Like is often the case the questions were ask and answered and when I told the elderly man it is a 1954 Ford he perked up and said he had one in the field behind his house.

We finished up and I took ladyhrp back to the house to get her van and I went the the farmers house to inspect the wagon,when I saw the car I was kinda shocked,I could have swore he said wagon but it turned out to be a sad panel truck,the top was crushed,the hood and front fenders were missing and all the glass was gone,it had obviously sat in the same spot for the last 50 years.

But it got me to thinking about forgotten & abandoned cars,especially station wagons since I do have a fondness for them.

So lets see some of those wagons lost to time. HRP

 

I got dibs on the 57 handyman 150 wagon.

 

I admire the men that can take those diamonds in the rough and turn them into driving beauties. (Not my program ever) A lot of farms here in Wi (It's the Dairy State). It's a mixed deal, beautiful well kept farms and the opposite, every POS that was bought for the last 2/3 generations in the yard, also not many junkyards ( now they are called recycling centers here) guessing state or federal mandates closed them up. I use to hear the stories of guys finding treasure's, not anymore, but I and most of my friends are getting old and for me working on old cars, that ship has sailed and sunk.

 

This thread could lead to some heart-breaking pictures, Danny.

 

HRP, there's a young guy at work and he's gotten the gearhead bug. When I tell him how older cars are sometimes just abandoned by their owners.... he's in total disbelief. I used to be, but have come to accept that, not only are they still out there, but they're in places you'd least expect

My faves are the 50's chevy wagons with steel "wood" on the side. 20 years ago I wouldn't even look at anything with four doors. Now I see my grand babies safely in the back seat.

 

Yep, my wife is from Wisconsin.
In the early 80's her folks came to Oregon from Madison for our wedding, when we were driving around my MIL thought it odd that everyone drove old cars in Oregon.
She was pointing out mid/late 70's cars.

There was a restaurant in Richmond that referred to grits as "Redneck Caviar"!! SO true!
